Geographical indicators have nothing to do with quality. Some of the most sought after wine in Italy for quality, especially Tuscan wines, are IGT. Heck Sassicaia used to be a Vino di Tavola because they didnt use grapes permitted for any DOCs/DOCGs in their area of Tuscany.
