  1. i would bet money on the chance that american junk food culture was introduced by dutch immigrants back in the day….the way the dutch handle food and recipes is an untouched travesty, the media still has to explore…especially dutch professional food workers are as oblivious as the average politician…lots of entertainment to be found there…

  2. American, 70 year old female, non Italian here. My mom cooked from scratch every day for our family sit down dinner. We had salad and a veggie side dish every meal, with bread on the table. Our main course was small. She had a big family to feed. So not every American eats out or has huge portions. That depends on the family. I was born in 1955. My parents and grandparents taught us how to eat healthy. Daily exercise for children was mandatory. My family did not focus on pasta or creamy sauces. My mom made her spaghetti sauce from scratch like once a month. She baked sour dough French bread from scratch when I was in high school. She baked deserts for the family, children weekly. She was a full time house wife. I was a full time housewife until my children were both out of elementary school. It was important to me.

  3. Hi Vincenzo l am agree everything you said but American restaurants 99 percent has not Italyan cooks mostly foreigners at kitchen Also Home cooking what Nonna cooks every part of family cooks that because Nonna s mother cooks that way 4 or 5 generations Became Italian American cuisine Caio

  4. Really starting to get kind of upset with the way you treat us. Don’t give a crap how you people make food. We do just fine. We don’t need your help and we don’t need your criticism.

  5. I am only guilty of eating these mistakes when others, who are not Italian or descended from Italians, cook "Italian" for me. I don't complain as I appreciate being fed since I am usually the cook, but yes… I agree with your list, as an American. I do cringe when I see these types of things, but I am always grateful for someone's hospitality. In restaurants it can be hit or miss. I know the places that do it correctly and I also know the places that do not.

I am no expert. Just speaking from family and outside experience.

  6. Alfredo: I live alone, I make one-course meals for myself. I don't need chicken with my dinner, but I am sure as hell going to have some good veggies with the Alfredo. I do think dropping the cream is a good idea, don't need my food that rich: the cream is not necessary.

Spaghetti with meatballs: I have never liked huge over-breaded meatballs. The meatballs overwhelm the plate. I do plan to made your small meatball recipe next time I am ready for a tomato sauce pasta. Looks great!

Garlic bread: unfortunately, I'm not a bread person. I use a spoon to clean my plate at the end. If I am having pasta, I don't need or want bread, too. A taste of hot bread before the meal arrives is for me to stave off "hangry" when service is slow, or we've gone out too late. Don't need much. But I do have a taste for hot garlic bread with EVOO or melted butter – the garlic ideally should not be raw, but nor should it be powder. And no, I won't fill up on that.

Italian dressing – actually, my preferred salad dressing out is Balsamic dressing. At home, I make my own vinaigrettes. No sugar, no sweetener, which is why I make my own. At home, alone, I eat salad either as its own meal, or alongside the main, which in that case is usually a protein, never a carb. At restaurants here in the US, it's always served before the main.

Coffee: I only drink coffee straight up. At breakfast. And I only have coffee in the evening or night if I have to stay awake for a two hour drive home.

  7. I still think for alfredo, the American version may be better, but I'm American so I'm biased. However, alfredo is no where near as good as the classic authentic Roman pasta dishes like carbonara, gricia, cacio e pepe or amatriciana. Americans do not know what they're missing out on because most have never tried these dishes.

  8. Now I find out that dipping bread in balsamic and olive oil isn't an Italian thing? But it's so simple and delicious! Just 3 ingredients and the outcome is amazing, especially if you use good quality ingredients… Fresh bread, quality extra virgin olive oil, good, thick Balsamico de Modena…

  9. Vincenzo, sei veramente forte! Mi sa, però, che è una guerra persa cercare di educare il palato e lo stomaco degli americani….

  10. As an American of Italian Descent, love the Espresso. Have a full machine at home, drink espresso all the time. Even when I went to Italy I ordered doppio when we passed a cafe. Sometimes though, the Americano is just for the volume. We drink a lot of filtered brewed coffee here and a cup of coffee, is a mug of coffee.

You've done a prior video on this subject but there's another distinction that needs to addressed; Italian Restaurants, in predominantly Italian American areas of the country, run by Italian Americans; they're making food that is closer to real Italian dishes, but are also making those Italian American dishes that our Great Grandparents made based on what they could get their hands on.

That Fettuccine Alfredo with cream and Chicken; that's corporate food chains, or made by people in parts of the country with no traditions to speak of, but their town or city doesn't have an Italian Restaurant and they are filling the hole. Also they'll name the place something tacky like "THAT'S AMORE RISTORANTE." And even we roll our eyes at that stuff. Large pizza chains butcher the pizza, and large coffe chains, like Starbucks ruin the simplicity an Italian cafe is supposed to be.

You're going to find a lot of us in agreement with you on what America has done to our food. It's generally outside the community you get these…choices.

  11. I can honestly say that I've never done any of these things!! I follow your recipes as gospel, and the results are incredible!! Thank you!!❤❤❤

  12. I'm not guilty of any of these. Some other crimes I've seen others commit: adding oil to the water & using ketchup as a sauce.

  13. 🇮🇹 Dear Vincenzo, i hope you really convinced them, but i have the feeling that in America, cooking…any type of cooking…is all about adding, adding and adding ingredients. Here in Italy it's exactly the opposite: we add the bare minimum and nevere overwhelm the flavors with excessive spices, sauces, or various condiments. Let's hope they've understood this time.

  14. I hadn't had alfredo in a long time (because I don't like the thick creams) but have been making it regularly now since watching your video on it. Delicious! But I will confess that I love adding bits of roasted chicken to it. Even more delicious! … At the same Italian restaurant where my great-uncle taught me to make zabaglione, they serve hot fresh sourdough bread with a side of butter (there is always oil & vinegar on the table). Sure, it can fill you up. But if you can't eat all the rest of your meal you get a to-go box and then you get to enjoy it again for lunch (portions are huge, btw). 😋😋 … I don't normally eat salads, but having some caprese begs the question of when to have it because it doesn't combine great with spumoni for dessert. I'd suggest having a salad at the same time as the main dish. And where does the soup fit in (minestrone or manhattan clam chowder)? You changed me on the alfredo, but no luck on the others. …. Just saw the end about espresso / food coma. That's exactly why we drink coffee at the end. The mistake about having a latte is that the hot milk is a sedative and counteracts the espresso that is trying to wake you up. 🤣

  15. My grandfather was a Yemenite Jewish soldier in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army in WW2 he fell in love with Italy, he helped an Italian family in Taranto who suffered alot from the war and he gave them money as well as flour and a lot of food supplies and they had him over for dinner and the family which had many daughters prepared fresh pasta with cheese and he told me stories about their amazing Hospitality food and culture he became lifelong friends with this family and went to visit them in Italy and they visited him in Israel over the years my grandfather became fluent in Italian he loved Opera the Italian culture music dance. They called him Giacomo Bruno (Yemenite Jews are dark skinned) the family name I believe was Francesco

  16. I laughed about the meatballs. Sometimes I will add ground pork or lamb but not in a ball. I am guilty of using Alfred but not on the fettuccine noodles they are too big.

  17. The legendary bad taste of Americans. As a European, I'm honestly shocked by these practices. And if you order a cappuccino in Paris during your meal, the waiter will refuse (I’ve seen it happen).

  18. Tried Marmite 3 times: First, only, Last. Every country has a special food.
That is too special for foreigners to enjoy. In America huge portions/ most
Obese people in the world. Thankey
For the reminder of Italian eating culture aka working with siesta and late Dinner 21pm the earliest.
