For this week’s video, we’re making a creamy, indulgent plate that brings together rich parmesan orzo, perfectly seared beef steak, sweet roasted rosa tomatoes, and vibrant broccolini.
It’s comforting, balanced, and full of flavour — the kind of meal that feels elevated but is still simple enough to make at home. This is a beautiful, well-rounded dish where each element complements the other — creamy, fresh, savoury, and just the right amount of indulgent.
Ingredients
Beef Steak
2 beef steaks (ribeye or sirloin)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, crushed
Fresh thyme or rosemary
Salt & black pepper, to taste
Creamy Orzo
1 cup orzo pasta
1 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup cream
½ cup grated parmesan
Salt & black pepper, to taste
Splash of pasta water (optional)
Roasted Rosa Tomatoes
250g rosa tomatoes
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt & black pepper
1 tsp dried herbs (oregano or Italian herbs)
Broccolini
1 bunch tenderstem broccolini
Salt, to taste
|
Method
1. Roast the Rosa Tomatoes
Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Toss the tomatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, and dried herbs.
Roast for 15–20 minutes until blistered and slightly caramelised.
2. Cook the Creamy Orzo
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the orzo until al dente.
Drain, reserving a bit of pasta water.
In a pan, melt the butter and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
Add the cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
Stir in the parmesan until melted and smooth.
Add the cooked orzo and mix well.
Adjust the consistency with a splash of pasta water if needed.
3. Prepare the Broccolini
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
Blanch the broccolini for 2–3 minutes until bright green and tender.
Remove and drain (optional: place in ice water to keep colour).
4. Cook the Beef Steak
Season the steaks generously with salt and pepper.
Heat the olive oil in a pan over high heat.
Sear the steaks for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on thickness.
Add butter, garlic, and herbs, then baste the steak.
Remove from heat and allow to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
5. Assemble the Plate
Spoon the creamy orzo onto the plate.
Slice the steak and place on top or לצד the orzo.
Add the roasted tomatoes and broccolini.
Serve
This plate brings together creamy comfort with fresh, vibrant elements — a simple but elevated meal that’s perfect for a slow evening or an easy date night at home.
