Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, beautiful world!
Warm greetings from an exciting place: Lijiang, Yunnan, China!
I am Pinky, always on the move and currently exploring CHINA and its TYPICAL CUISINE! No, we are not only, BUT DEFINITELY will be! devouring HOTPOTS & NOODLES! We are diving deep into local pots and authentic cuisine!
The star of show today: DEFINITELY THE HAND MADE ITALIAN STYLE NOODLES with chewy beef and two types of unbelievably flavourful mushroooms!
The feast:
168 Yuan for 2!!!!! $20 DOLLARS!!!! REALLY! FOR THIS TYPE OF EATING! AMAZING!
Additionally: $10 Dollars for a selection of freshly brewed coffees from 3 countries!
ON THE PRICIER SIDE but worth every penny! For the first time a got a real explanation!!! with my food!
The noodle dish was DESIGNED WITH LOVE! CAREFULLY DECORATED WITH RED PEPPER!
THE NOODLES WERE PERFECT!
THE BEEF SOOOOO YUM! (It was not Yak, we had Naxi pancakes and Yak meat tasters afterwards – unexpectly, the juciest grilled meat I ever had!)
Yunnan is incluenced by cuisines from many minorities, plus the abundance of potatoes and mushrooms (I am talking about more than 800 varieties each!!!)
The dish was TOP KNOTCH! The restaurant owner combined 2 dishes in one for me and let me choose my type of noodes!
My golden noodles were topped with golden chanterelle mushrooms and dried chrunchy chicken leg mushrooms (they are called this was because they shrink when fried or dried to tangly little chicken legs) and a type of greenish !so yum! and soft special local mushrooms.
Yellow chanterelles commonly found and marketed in Yunnan Province, China, and often referred to as Cantharellus cibarius (golden chanterelle) or Ji-You-Jun (chicken fat mushroom)
– a local favourite – umami-rich ! Flat! Soft and firm at the same time!!
They are highly prized for their aroma and flavor, used in stir-fries, soups, and with oil/butter.
Termite mushrooms are also amongst favourites.
How I get around LIJIANG:
The gorgeous Old Town can be conveniently explored on foot.
To reach Jade Dragon Mountain: ride one hour by pre-booked car – explore the area (with online pre-booked ticket – YET, I ACTUALLY RECOMMEND BOOKING THROUGH YOUR HOTEL, they can call directly and make the booking – in this way you know which will be your assigned time slot – if you book online trip.com will only send you an email the night before to advise re time slot – and then you have to find someone flexible with a private car arrangement).
For other ancient towns such as Baisha or Shuhe (both are much smaller than Lijiang — Lijiang IS THE PLACE TO BE!), take a Didi (taxi) or electric bike! You will have so much fun.
Watch my videos for tips to explore!
(SECRET TIP: Lijiang has an immense local produce market right in the old town (THIS IS WHERE WE ARE HAVING OUR CHICKPEA JELLY LUNCH) – perfect for a budget super delicious breakfast / lunch / early dinner!!!!!!!!!!)
Enjoy WATCHING, enjoy LIJIANG – MY HEART BELONGS HERE!
