What’s up yall. I’m new to the pizza game, and I brought a pizza steel. So I seasoned my steel. I followed the instructions that came with the steel, wash, then place in oven at 350F for 1 hour with whatever oil we use (I used grapeseed), and let cool in oven after. I’ve seen videos of people’s coming out with a dark color, but mine is a brownish-bronzeish hue. I don’t think it’s rust, and feel like I’d definitely know if it was but I’m not quite sure. It reminds me of cast irons kinda after seasoning those, but a little different (I sanded my cast iron down and then seasoned, worked great) . I’m wondering would yall cook on this? Or should I re season or just get a new steel? I don’t want to buy a new steel, but I’m really new. I figured I could maybe treat it like my cast irons and sand it down maybe (if that would even work) and get closer to the untreated steel and try to re season again. Let me know what’s up or is this just how steels look.

looks right for a single coat. if you want darker, do multiple coats. mine is a very dark gray due to x number of coats – at least three, maybe five. can’t remember. In any case, it’s ok to cook on. Unseasoned is also ok.
