A beloved Durham restaurant is expanding for the first time in years with a new Italian concept.
The owners of Pomodoro Italian Kitchen will open a new restaurant in the Latta Park development in North Durham.
Building on their reputation for casual Italian-American dishes, owners Carlo and Josephine Finazzo plan to open Compa Pizza & Pasta in the new development.
βCompa is a Sicilian expression that means brotherhood or best friend, and thatβs the foundation of everything we’re creating,β said Josephine, co-owner of Compa. βWeβre excited to bring Durham a welcoming neighborhood restaurant centered around handmade pasta, pizza and genuine hospitality. Latta Park felt like the perfect home because of its strong sense of community, and we look forward to becoming a place where neighbors gather, connect and feel like family.β

Earlier this year, Pomodoro was named the Triangleβs Best Italian Restaurant by readers of The News & Observer, honoring the family restaurantβs blend of pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salads.
With Compa, the owners say theyβll focus on handmade pasta and pizza, while expanding into the North Durham community.
The long-awaited Latta Park development opened its anchor grocery store, Publix, earlier this year. The shopping center is also home to a Chipotle and there are plans to add an outpost of Bull City Burger next year.
