It’s OH BEE BEE !
Last time I did this journey, I was woken up and kicked out of the sleeper car at 3am because the AC broke. We all then had to find seats to spend the rest of the journey, without any assistance.

The service on board was abysmal, if they have a menu the items should be available . The lack of soap could be a h &s issue. You are paying, what I feel, is a premium price for a third class product, very unusual for a Swiss train.

As for the delay of the train you cant't blame ÖBB, the first and biggest problem are the tracks running through germany. Germanys rail infrastructure was neglected over decades.
The food was supposedly unavailable because the carriage was in Hamburg, and according to him you could not pay because his mobile device was not working in Switzerland. Honestly, those explanations are nonsense.
It felt more like he simply could not be bothered to do his job properly and was doing the bare minimum instead of providing the level of service customers should reasonably expect. I would definitely report this to ÖBB as well. If this is how he treats passengers, he may want to reconsider whether this job is right for him. And frankly, what he said sounded like outright lies.
Sooo…only 27 minutes of delay despite travelling through Germany and you got your dinner in the end? The complaints sound like a lot of First World problems to me. The only bad thing was the lack of soap.
Absolute muppet depending on food on board. That's like relying on Ryanair for a bite to eat…clown.
Busiest station in Switzerland? More like one of the busiest world-wide, definitely busiest in Europe, with 3000 departures per day.

Yup, my partner and I stopped using Nightjets. It's such a shame. You were actually lucky getting the compartment you booked and not having the fire alarm go off in the middle of the night (mind you, not because someone smoked or anything like it… no, it turned out to be poor maintenance of carriages).
I'll rather take first class in an ICE and spend a full day working in it than having an expensive half-ass sleep through the night in a downgraded compartment.

At least you made it on the train. I got stranded overnight at Salzburg station. No station staff. Phone line rang out. Left to fend for myself. After spending the whole night on the station in the hope the train might actually show, I rebooked for the 5am service into Germany.
My guess is the train got diverted in Germany, and then didn't have a good path in Switzerland fitting the different timings through Germany –> diverted via interregio line.
There's major fuckery going on near offenburg, so I guess the nightjet just randomly got told by the Germans that their slot between Basel and Offenburg no longer existed (hence the hour-long wait there)

By the way. Anyone wonder what company makes these metal toilets? I need to ask them why the front slopes to the back so quickly. Not ideal for sitting men…
