Italy’s government took the extraordinary measure on Sunday to lock down much of the north of the country, restricting movement for about a quarter of the Italian population. It’s the most sweeping effort outside of China to stop the spread of coronavirus and is seen as sacrificing Italy’s economy in the short term to save it from the worst of the virus.
