Many of these stolen wines were never recovered, disappearing into history along with the regimes that took them.

IMEOO: Nobody stopped others from their "discoveries". Historically, "wars be like that." Much was returned as intact as possible. Perishables may not of made it home for many reasons. Americans sacrificed their lives & their families futures, & helped save lives of other nations families/friends from torture, suffering & pain, extermination & dictatorships. Nobody should ever begrudge them some celebratory perishables. Sounds like weak sour grapes. I am an honorable American Veteran. Do not denigrate those of us, from all nations, that died & served diligently so that other nations could survive & thrive again. War is hell on earth & comes at great cost & sacrifices to those who serve, and their families.
Political regimes & politicians must answer for their corruptions & crimes.
