As our Grand Italian Tour continues, we journey south to Naples, the birthplace of sprezzatura, in search of quality, craftsmanship, and tradition. In this episode, I have the privilege of visiting the renowned Sartoria Rubinacci, a cornerstone of Neapolitan tailoring that has defined effortless elegance for generations.
Welcoming me into this world of bespoke artistry is my good friend Luca Rubinacci, the third-generation steward of his family’s legacy. With his trademark charm, Luca shares the unique elements that distinguish Neapolitan tailoring—from its lightweight construction to its unparalleled sense of style.

I own only one Rubinacci suit, and I have to say, it is by far my absolute favorite one due to all the little nuances.
Unfortunately, most of the time it goes unnoticed by the average person.

45:39 *Correction: The pleats on Kirby's trousers are called pleats. They are forward facing – which is the traditional way of pleating a uniform. And the forward facing pleats is the cleanest look and way of doing them. Hence the use of forward facing pleats on uniforms. Backwards facing pleats are the more casual and modern way of doing them. Wisdom is key here – and I personally only wear backwards facing pleats (the casual version of pleats). Thank you to Rubinacci & Kirby for a very enjoyable viewing!

It’d be interesting to learn when exactly did the “Neapolitan” style of tailoring begin. People tend to think it’s a really old tradition, but it might actually be a relatively new tradition. If you watch old classic Italian films from the mid 20th century, you won’t see Neapolitan style jackets in them.
