Have you sailed on an Icon Class of ships? Would you love it…or hate it?!
This is a very fair and accurate overview of this class of ship. My husband and I sailed on the first couple of sailings of Star of the Seas, a sister ship to Legend, last summer from Port Canaveral. We don't have any kids, but the two of us feel like it's our favorite ship we've sailed on after 16 cruises. We've tried several premium lines like Celebrity and Holland America, and we actually thought that the service and our stateroom were better on Star of the Seas. The ship has plenty of areas for kids, but all of those areas tend to be completely separated from the adult areas. The result is a ship that works for everyone no matter what kind of experience you're wanting.
Our best tip would be to avoid the upper decks entirely between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. I had a hot tub to myself most mornings at 8:30 am, and one evening right after a storm, my husband and I had the entire aft infinity pool to ourselves for an hour or so. We've learned to strategize to avoid the crowds. Also, the show in the main theater on Star of the Seas, Back to the Future, is by far not only the best show we've ever seen at sea, but the best show we've ever seen anywhere. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Legend looks amazing as well. A great thing about Royal is that if you arrive early enough for any of the shows, you can get the best seats in the house regardless of the type of cabin you're in/how much money you paid. We arrived to Back to the Future one and a half hours early and sat outside the theater doors until they opened 45 minutes before the show started. Then we walked straight to the first row right in the middle and sat down. I really appreciated how democratic the seating was and hope that stays the same.
I'm also kind of a foodie, and I loved the food overall, especially the crepe station in the Aquadome Market. The main dining room food on Royal I believe is also better than most people give it credit for, with particular highlights being the prime rib that's always served on the first night and the braised lamb shanks always served on the final night (this is true for every ship in their fleet, not just the Icon Class ships). These two meals taste more like something you'd see in a specialty restaurant rather than the main dining room. And finally, as theme park and water park enthusiasts, my husband and I absolutely love the water slides on the Icon Class. I'm both a food snob and a kid at heart with my love for thrilling attractions, so I suppose Star of the Seas is the perfect ship for me for those reasons alone.
I am 65 but still very active and young at heart so I absolutely love the activities, the entertainment, the shows and the vibe of the ship. Everyone is happy and has a smile on the ship.
I travel with my 15 year old son who has a limited diet. I wanted to go to the train restaurant but can't book for just myself and I am not paying £150 for him to leave it all. I have been able to book a wine tasting in this restaurant to get a flavour of it without the massive price tag.
Inside cabin for us, we have stretched to have that.
I did a boardwalk balcony for the first time last year and enjoyed it. We did have to remember to keep the curtain closed but I enjoy sitting on our balcony watching everything going. We were on deck 11 so not as visible as lower ones are and the noise ended after the Aqua show. I would do an interior balcony again but probably more midship
🙏
This is the first time I have been recommended one of your videos
Stayed for the entire thing, and am now heading over the the second part
The information is presented in an entertaining way, and the hour passed by very quickly
I absolutely love this channel, great content & advice.
Did you dock in Naples?.
Having been on several different cruise lines… Of the large ones, RCL tend to have the "people flow" and "people management" really well sorted. There are lots of people onboard but it never really feels like too many. The same can not be said for ships like Iona and Arvia on P&O.
Well done 👏👏👏
I got to be in this beauty’s maiden voyage.. 4th of July weekend as well.. and it was my first ever cruise as well.. Can’t wait for Hero 2027 in August..
We went on icon and the dinner hall was ok. We enjoyed wind jammer better. The options were better and the quality. Soo many options hard to not find something decent vs hit or miss at dinner. Plus all you can eat lobster vs 1 at dinner, win win! Honestly love the bigger ships, so much to do, never feel bored, so much that you often dont even have time to experience it all. Expensive but well worth it, 7 days or enjoying life.
I sailed Utopia…loved it! If you are bored, it’s you’re own fault! 😊
What a great review! ❤👏 I Can't wait for mine in February.
RCL should hire more people to keep those new ships spotless!!! I was disppointed to see the condition of the Icon of the Seas when we boarded it last year while it's not even 2 years old yet! I wonder if we try either Star of the Seas or Legend, we'll have the same disappointment! I think it's just a lack of aftercare that's wearing these new ships too fast!!!
Those synchronized drones will be used against (swarm, triangulate) many of the clapping cruise ship passengers if they haven't been already.
what royal keeps missing is the kids that age OUT of splashaway bay. there are no mid waterslides or family slides. all kids dont run on 100 as soon as they outgrow age 8
Video starts at 3:50. Great content, though!
Spot on thought the same.
Hopefully when in the US you will not have kids running around screaming at 2am stealing everyone's door decorations 😮
