What if I told you Europe’s tallest active volcano is right here in Sicily… and its name literally means ‘I burn’?
This is Mount Etna, rising over 3,300 metres high — that’s more than 10,900 feet! The name comes from the ancient Greek Aítnē, from aíthō — ‘to burn’ or ‘to shine.’ The Romans called it Aetna. And in Sicilian dialect, locals simply say ’a Muntagna — ‘the Mountain’ — because it dominates everything.”
Etna is one of the world’s most active volcanoes, erupting almost every year. It’s so massive astronauts can see it from space. And its volcanic soil produces some of Sicily’s best wines.
So when Sicilians point to ’a Muntagna, they’re not just talking about a mountain — they mean the giant that shapes their land and life.

We walked Etna on my 60th birthday most memorable and the wines 🍷 ❤
Very interesting, but the presenter comes on too strong. May I suggest chilling out, lady?
