On the other side of this door lies one of New York’s best secret bars today we’ll be uncovering some of the city’s top hidden restaurants and speak easys because The Big Apples most exciting spots are often hiding in plain sight we’re going to start with a little Bodega under the Brooklyn Bridge that

Sells more than just groceries you bring me here without context I’ll be like okay why are we doing here have some cool items here too tin sefood so here it is this is how it turns from Bodega into little Speak Easy I didn’t expect to see this room honestly it’s

Like totally different vibe yeah it’s very Victorian it’s like you want to have a secret tea party back here now I want a tea with alcohol I like it a lot of their drinks just have one name like guava miso peppercorn I might do a pea I’m going to get the chill espresso

That’s a mom I need D the chilled espresso has 1 oz of pure espresso in it we have Rizado tequila we have a coffee lure and a little bit of sugar for the Pina we of course have pineapple juice some Ora lemon juice and some white rum

And we top this off with some overproof rum cheers chairs so good this is like cof I need in the morning really yes I have a toddler I do imagine you make coffee in the morning yeah and you’re dis spray and you grab the Tia and you per but made by Professionals of

Course I’ve been to Speak Easy bars where I think the gimmick is just that it’s a speak easy but this could actually stand by itself as a cocktail bar and I would not complain about spending $18 or $19 on a drink that’s this well made this is so good to the

Rum quality of this rum right away I can tell is very good it just feels like I’m on a beach somewhere like the bartender Kiki did a fantastic job making this you’re at the beach and I’m a tea party I really think this bar is the perfect

Middle Ground like you don’t have to be super dressed up for this but if you want to dress up you’ll feel right at home and it’s an instagrammer dream one of the most iconic things of New York are bodegas and Deli and have this little Hidden Gem in the back that’s

Clever and I don’t even know if it’s ever been done before I had this bar on my radar for a very long time it has little touches here and there like I love the art on the walls as an artist I really really appreciate it a lot I

Think Speak Easy bars are such a distinctly New York City phenomenon and that a lot of other cities caught on to what New York was doing because Prohibition in the United States the 1920s Like These Bars were actually a thing and I don’t think they get enough

Credit I think I need to go to Mor of them what do you think fun fact our second date he took me to Speaky STS I never heard of them before in Mexico so he really impressed me with that date take notes you want to impress your significant other your first date take

Them to a Speak Easy Bar yep and they have non-alcoholic options here and you can even take stuff from the bodega and they’ll plate it for you so imagine having potato chips or Gummy Bears I don’t know get creative imagine someone comes just to buy something and they

Don’t even know what’s going on in the back room oh I actually did see a girl come and she just bought sugar and she left and I don’t know if she realized there was a bar back there but yeah I will feel betrayed in my local B doesn’t

Tell me they have a spies in the background imagine in the world of hidden eats there is a legend of a pizza spot tucked away inside of a subway station but does it actually exist we’re about to find out definitely one of the most unique locations I’ve ever seen for a

Restaurant inside the New York City someway I opened up nothing really matters and while I was doing business next door I saw the opportunity to not only open up a cocktail bar but a coffee shop across the way and then this is my third Endeavor down here in the subway

It’s a tiny space we’re th000 square feet we don’t have any gas we came up with these beautiful electric ovens for pizza made in Italy mariia ovens a week or two weeks ago we didn’t exist so all of a sudden they head jerk and they’re like what the hell is this you know

Really excited about the surprise and because not only that we can deliver and I hate to say it a lot of places can’t deliver so fended this is the hell pie it’s a pepperoni o it looks good so this is the hell pie which has the sauce hot soetta pepperoni hot COA scamorza

Pecorino and calabrian chili I think this is one of their best sellers that has got to be some of the best pepperoni I’ve ever had in New York City this is pepperoni you get in nice neopolitan joint not at some slice shop I wish you co smell this smells so good

So the Mean Streets we have the sauce peppers and onions scamorza cheese Kachi ellaa cheese and fennel sausage a lot of flavors going on with the Mean Streets peppers and onions combining with a little spicy sausage two different Italian cheeses it’s one of the best pizza I ever tried like it’s

So delicious and the quality of the ingredients like you really tasty and they’re not just known for their pizza here their appetizers are fantastic as well we’ve got some beets we have the toast that has fresh sardines pickled vegetables oh my God I’m going to keep everything for me

Adrian and the owner saying how they prep the dough 3 days in advance and these are the types of things you want to hear from a New York City Pizza owner that kind of level of prep and attention to detail and I can hear the subway in

The distance this place is kind of a Vibe I’m not going to lie you forget where you are right oh yeah definitely I forgot for a second if the one train was in 20 seconds you can catch it we are that close to the turn Styles right now

Definitely one of the more unique places I’ve ever been to in New York and you better visit before they’re super packed cuz I think word is going to spread about this nice about this style of pizza place too you know your pizza’s made in about 20 minutes you can come

And go quick you don’t have to spend hours here if you don’t want to you can catch that one train Speak Easy right here this is a very nice little Corridor I like what they’ve done here at 50th yep you work around here you can definitely come here and get your coffe

In the morning then you can go grab lunch and then after work you can definitely go grab a drink good ideas just Steps From Time Square hidden through those doors a little Island Oasis perfect timing perfect timing the freaky Tiki so Adriana and I have actually been here

Before this is one of our favorite bars in Midtown and it’s so unique because yes you have the tiki theme and they have amazing cocktails drinks and food what really sets freaky Ticky apart starting at 8:00 Tuesday through Thursday and 9:00 Friday and Saturday is their live request piano show so you’re

Just steps from Broadway and you can request broadway songs you can request songs from like any era because New York has so many talented piano players and singers here that whenever we come we just request whatever we want give them a little tip and everybody sings along

You can venmo whoever the performer is you can even write down your request right here anything and if they know it they’ll play it I love my glasses I wish I could take it home and I got the Don Ho which is rum Carousel lime mint and [Applause] let’s toast to Friendship here’s here is two good friends who know us well and like us anyways cheers promise promise to sing all the words the words to Don’t Stop Believing up and down the Shadows searching in the night Come on Barbie let’s go party street light sing he now you’re an

Allar Adriana where’s Adriana Adriana can I give you another F SRA folks do we have anyone visiting that isn’t from New York City tonight does that mean we are all New York Yankee [Applause] fans all three of us let’s do it let’s do a little New York Yankees theme Start Spreading the

News I’m leaving today sing it I want to be a a big where New York folks I need some Rockets to get out here can I have some Rockets City that doesn’t sleep and find I’m King of the now we [Applause] Are I think this spot I really like it to come with friends and sing with your friends I think if you’re with a group of people you feel more encouraged to sing they sing all type of songs for like really old really new songs so it’s

Really cool and I have to say the cocktails here are amazing it’s not just the Vibes the quality of the cocktails are great too now that you know about the best secret bars and restaurants in New York what about secret buildings that’s right these buildings look like

One thing but actually do something else watch this video next

  1. $18 to $19 for a drink? Who are you? No, this is not a good recommendation, in fact, a very arrogant one. Otherwise, very nice presentation. The Pizza looked great and I would have loved to be there to try it.

  2. This video is, Barr none, the greatest Barr video you've ever made. It sets a high Barr for future Barr videos featuring Jon Barr at high-end fancy Barrs 😄

  3. I remember I was in front of Central Park with my friends and there was 4 of us I bought each of us a hotdog and was surprised to find that the card reader said $65.00 as a born and raised New Yorker I told the guy I wasn't going to pay it and he agreed to then just charge me 15 dollars… I would say don't go to a food truck/food cart near or in front of a popular area or attraction in the city as they charge more for blind tourists

  4. There is a place in Washington DC that is a fast food chicken place in the front and speakeasy in the back with private dj. Veryyyyyyy cool. (Chicken and whiskey is the name of the place)

  5. Bar None the best Utuber producer in the big apple .And, your guests are so interesting addition to your productions Keep going Strong

  6. Wow, I love them ❤…especially the last one with performance and a very chill vibe. As a non drinker, I love that one, I could spend hours in there laughing and singing along. ❤❤❤

  7. There's also two very fancy spots hidden in plain sight. One is Frevo with one star in the Village hidden behind an art gallery and the one is Nōksu, inside of a Subway station below Herald Square (of course it's Korean as well featuring a seafood focused tasting menu.) There also used to be a Burmese spot within the Jackson Heights subway stop below diversity plaza called Yun Cafe but now it's a brick and mortar in the East Village called Little Myanmar.

  8. I know nyc, it's expensive, but I had the best time in my life going from the northwest coast to the east coast and park of my good time. Thanks to your great recommendations 👍

  9. I wish you showed pictures of the whole menus! I want to live vicariously through you until i can eventually visit 🤣 also we have different tastes

  10. Thanks! I need your help with something Jon. If you look at the cover of the Oasis album "Standing on the shoulders of giants", there is a building in the foreground, directly in front of the ESB. It kinda looks like a parking garage. In a recent photo, the building seems to no longer be there. The album is from the year 2000, give or take. Do you know what that building is? TIA

  11. Interesting place to visit.🤩. She sang a Journey' s amazing song: Don't Stop Believing. Here in my country, Brazil, people appreciate American 80's songs so much. thank you for showing us one of the best secret places to visit in NY.

  12. I miss your old camera-man Ben. But whoever shot this did a great job – especially the "New York, New York finale.

  13. That pizza 🍕 place may not be a secret for long. It was in the newspaper 📰. 🚇☕️🥃🥂🍹🍸 All those places seem fun. 😊

  14. Very nice selection of secret NYC bars and restaurants… Thanks for the recommendations! Can you do a video of you ranking all the NYC themed restaurants?
