Episode 2: Tipping
Tourists often tip in Italy the same way they do in North America. It actually confuses servers.
In most Italian restaurants service is already included. Staff are paid normal wages, not tip wages.
Leaving a euro or two for good service is nice but large tips are not expected.
Italy is not a tipping culture.
And yes, of course I’ve had to step in and explain this to tourists who thought something shady was happening.
