This is Norma Sicilian Pasta Kitchen – a brand new spot from the team behind Santi’s Italian Restaurant, bringing a fresh Sicilian-inspired concept right into the city centre. The family behind it come from Sicily, and wanted to bring the experience of eating freshly cooked pasta on their home island back here to Hull!
It’s beautifully decorated, designed to look like the Italian churches that dot Sicily – there’s loads of greenery, old church pews, Sicilian tiles and even photos of Sicily taken by the owners!
The food is absolutely elite. We started with the antipasti for two with Italian cured meats and cheeses, alongside a roast garlic and rosemary focaccia that’s crisp, fluffy, and perfect for sharing.
For mains, the pasta is fantastic – we tried the Norma rigatoni, traditionally made with slow-cooked tomato and aubergine, and the bistecca cotoletta was stunning too, a steak covered in a gorgeous sauce, balsamic, and garnished with an Italian salad.
My absolute favourite was the arancino – a deep-fried stuffed Italian rice ball that was crispy on the outside and packed with flavour inside. They change it up every week, so there’s always something new to try, and we tried stracciatella and figs too – sweet, creamy, and finished with pistachio and honey.
To drink, the sangria della casa is really refreshing, and they stock Birra Messina too, a premium lager imported straight from Sicily. For desserts, we had a rich chocolate mousse with candied pistachio, and classic cannoli Siciliana – both were amazing and ended the meal perfectly!
So if you’re looking for a perfect date spot, somewhere to celebrate, or just a really nice, authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of Hull city centre, definitely give Norma a go!
