It’s Carnevale! 🎭 That means it’s time for Chiacchiere! The light, airy, and ultra-crispy pastries that define the season in Italy.
In Italy, they go by many names: Chiacchiere, Frappe, Bugie, or Crostoli. No matter what you call them, they are dangerously addictive!

Ingredients:
2 cups 00 flour
2 eggs
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp sunflower oil
2 tbsp Grappa
Zest of 1 lemon
Dash of salt
Frying oil (sunflower or neutral oil)
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, sunflower oil, Grappa, lemon zest, and salt.
2. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms. Transfer to a work surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
3. Cover or wrap the dough and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
4. Roll the dough out very thin, using a pasta machine or rolling pin.
5. Cut into strips or desired shapes.
6. Heat frying oil to medium heat and fry the chiacchiere in batches until lightly golden and crisp.
7. Transfer to paper towels to drain, then dust generously with powdered sugar.

Very similar to the Polish chrusciki! So tasty!
My mama made these many,many years ago to give as Christmas gifts to friends and family. She would drizzle honey over them and some sprinkles and of course the powdered sugar. Thank you so much for sharing this….it brought back wonderful memories !! 😊

My grandmother made something similar. It's a lot like a polish cookie she made us at the holidays (I don't know how to spell it).
Very similar to the Slovak carnival dessert Fanky. My grandmother used to make them the best.
