Let me tell you about RED FLAGS!! When you see a person online who has multiple phone numbers —- I’m talking more than just 2-4. Think about it . . . Who pays these phone bills?? Ten phones??? Why would you need 10 phones?? 14, 17, 24, 30 phones?? TODAY I found the highest number of phones (number) by one individual (so far) —- 43 phone numbers!!! YIKES!!! I love clinical studies. My partner, not so much.
Ratios are very good. Some interactions are heavier in weight due to the emotional impact they may have. We also need repentance. Some negative interactions are sin. Some are self focused. Some are disrespect. Some strike at the foundation of the relationship. We need a redeemer. A justification not on the mental, emotional, or physical level, but on the level of our souls is required. If we merely seek to justify ourselves, we can not access God's grace. If we attempt to justify another person without the grace of God, we deny the opportunity for real trust, healing, and truth.
Repentance and forgiveness heal. Both husband and wife need to become good at repentance and forgiveness. The way is Jesus Christ.
Every person has sinned. Sin makes the heart grow cold. We can not justify ourselves. We all need Jesus Christ. If we love our self more than God, we err on the side of cold contempt. If we love our husband or wife more than God, we err on spouse worship idolatry. Anything a human heart worships except God can not bear the worship and becomes demonized owing to it's inherently imperfect nature, and so the imperfections are highlighted by worship. Even good things, if worshiped, are harmed. The worship of God places the marital interaction ratio in balance. We love because God first loved us.
So according to the math, a successful marriage requires the two of you to get along 80-91% of the time. Any less or any more leads to divorce. NOW we know why people no longer want to get married!
