A few weeks ago we spontaneously decided to visit the Italian part of our family. Since there were unfortunately no flights from West Germany to Calabria at this time, we chose the airport of Palermo as our travel destination. The plan was a road trip through Sicily and Calabria. In this video I would like to show you our best impressions.
After a bumpy landing, we went straight to the port-city of Marsala, which is known for its wine and the windmills that were previously used for salt production.
We continued to the hill town of Taormina on the west coast of the island and then by ferry from Messina to Villa San Giovanni. A few hours later we reached Cosenza in Calabria. We were immediately confronted with Italian hospitality. The beaches on the east and west coast of Calabria are fantastic. We especially liked Tropea very much.
On the way back we stayed a few more days in Cefalù on the north coast of Sicily. Picturesque alleys, dreamy bays, great restaurants – Cefalù is the cliché of a romantic small Italian town.
To put it in Goethe’s words:
Without Sicily, Italy creates no image in the soul:
Here’s the key to everything.
