Last year, our tiny Calabrian village tried something new: a food festival celebrating the traditional food, music, and culture of Calabria. More than 1,000 people showed up, so this year we decided to make it bigger and better.

The second Dasà Food Fest brought together even more of our community, with local associations and home cooks preparing traditional dishes, food stands coming from across Calabria, and the entire town transforming for one very special night.

There was just one problem: far more people showed up than anyone expected.

In this video, we take you behind the scenes as our little village prepares for its biggest event ever, and show what happened when thousands of people descended on Dasà for a taste of Calabria. Things didn’t exactly go according to plan, but it turned into a night none of us will ever forget.

  3. This may sound crazy, but you should contact the MN State Fair. I bet they could help with some of the logistics. I know they are busy this year.

  4. Amazing Harper! You and Eva just changed the face of that little village! I think the people from Dasa would be very proud and thankful to you! ❤

  5. Omg, this video is one of the best things I’ve ever watched! What a beautiful town with beautiful people, and so much warmth & human connection. Congrats on your overachievement 😆, it looked like an amazing time. And also congrats on your miraculous baby girl. 🩷 What a wonderful life she will have. Sending love from Oregon, US.

  6. lol there's a ringtone just after the first coffee was announced and i was confused and a little freaked out because my husband isn't home (that's his ringtone) but our family tracking app places his phone (with him) at work and i was wondering who the hell was lurking in my house and quickly shut off their ringer 😅after I searched the house to make sure i was alone i took the video back a step and it happened again and that's when i realized

  7. Pre-sell tickets with tokens for premium items. Then you will know what you need to produce.
Give a premium to anyone who buys tickets 2 weeks before the date. A gift that is not available to walk-ins.
Walk-ins still welcome, but at least you will have a basis for the number of vendors, variety of foods and quantities.

  8. Food festivals run out of food all the time, no shame in that. The Windy City Smokeout in Chicago is a 3 day bbq festival and the brisket is always the first thing to run out each day. The key is in the prep. What foods can be prepared ahead and reheated or can be fully prepped and just cooked when needed. If the potato donuts can sit overnight in the fridge or the potatoes and peppers can be reheated, that can be done ahead and then you could easily double the amount. Any food uncooked or left over, you can have a party with those who helped put the festival together the next day.

  9. Food isn't everything, coming together is the fun. I love Italy❤ greetings from Austria❤

  10. Wel done, and when the atmosphere is good and fun to be had specific foods become less important and people will make do. It’s not only about the food, it’s about soaking in the whole cultural feeling and just having fun and meeting people. All popular food festivals run into the same issues as you can never plan perfectly. People who visit these festivals regularly are experienced with that.

  11. Yes, it was a food festival, but I'm pretty sure most of the people who showed up went there not necessarily for the food, but to be around other people.

I understand that you were disappointed about running out of food so quickly, but seeing how everyone was dancing, laughing and having a blast, I genuinely believe that most people didn't really care about that.

  12. I farm in a small, also emptying village in Northern Pennsylvania, where I can graze sheep and goats along Main Street. Similar problems, similar hopes. That song at the end of the video brought a tear to my eye.

  13. This is the way! Most small rural towns end up dying from poor management. The town council shies away from growth, because they enjoy THEIR quiet, small town existence, and just want to maintain the status quo, which leads to stagnation. Young people need excitement and opportunities, so they leave.

  14. Maybe you need to utilize space at the mill. Obviously I don't know where it is in relation to the town square. But it seems like a beautiful spot. I would love to see an update video about if any improvements have been made to it. How wonderful if it could be working again!

  15. If you could somehow sell tickets in advance. My daughter went to catholic school and every lent we would do a pierogi sale and every year we would run out. So we started selling tickets in advance that helped us preplan. It became a huge event and the main money maker for our little school. So not only did we start serving dinners ready to eat but we had frozen pierogi to sell. I know it looks like a failure to run out of food, but bravo Harper and Eva for putting your little town on the map. Looking forward to a bigger and better festival next year.

  16. What do you mean "IF we ever do this again". Of course you should do it again! This was a complete success for sure despite the food running out. What a festival. What a joy to see all these people singing and eating and loving life!

  17. See forward few years in the futue, the city is gentrified to hell, locals cannot longer live there, all there is is Anglo-Saxon digital nomads that are going to consume the culture and resources while they can and leave to the next place as soon as they want, leaving a unrecognisable place. Oh not to mention the real state agents that will start to fly around everything as the vultures they are. Anyways have fun, cus I am not saying you cannot do this, but do it too big for a small city and a city with people that generally don’t have that big of a salary and as soon as those with a bigger wallet put their eye on it’s done. Maybe I’m too pessimistic but I’ve seen this before.
