“The Devil Wears Prada 2” star Stanley Tucci delves into the complex identity of Italy’s northernmost region, where many speak German as well as Italian. He samples an unexpectedly delicious hay soup, skis down a mountain to experience Dirndl Day, eats slope-side polenta, and fly-fishes in a glacial river. Along the way, he uncovers a history of border conflict, which has left its mark on the people and their food.

Stanley Tucci is a good person who is living a life well lived. Bravo.
5:23 that gasp. That would have made my day.
Landins… what a grounded, beautiful people. This entire episode has me wanting for more.
Beautiful Stanley!
Just found Stanley Tucci’s videos. Fantastic! Thank you NG and Mr. Tucci.
This fascinating video doesn’t represent the entirety of the region, but only one of the two provinces, la provincia di Bolzano. It touches Trentino only marginally. Now let’s make a second part, centered this time on the city of Trento and its territory.
Wonderful to see different cuisine and cultures in peace😊😊😊😊
I never thought of the Italians as “sensible”. Ever. Wonderful people, but …
Tough way to spend the day, Stanley😂. Fishing and cooking. Two of my favorite things.
Over a half a million people live in this region of Italy………..Sorry Tuccareli, I think this area of Italy has already been discovered.🧐
Tucci please don’t use the Lord’s name in vain there are still eternal consequences if you fail to confess that in the sacrament of confession. Please take heed.
So when you go to Ethiopia, are you going to spotlight the Italians or German/Austrians living there?
Not a fan of italy after the tajani decree law passed. We ended our annual family trips there. Wasn't in a rush to obtain paperwork because we thought it was an imprescriptible settled right. Wish tucci would call out italy's BS
I disagree, it wouldn't be the end of Stanley's career if he wore a dirndl. I actually think it's the logical bookend to his Miami Vice character. In a Tyler Perry-style scene, Stanley could play all his characters, sitting at the dinner table together. Dirndl Stanley offers Frank Mosca some gulaschsuppe, and Frank reminds her "but do not forget the cannoli".
When I die and ultimately get reincarnated I want to come back as Stanley!🎉
How nice, Stanley, that you show us how entitled you are. You get to globe trot while we eat ramen. Enjoy your entitled gluttony.
It’s clear at the end that the owner thought , he said this was “awful” not Rabbit “offal”
Great video! Wonderful food and very good chefs and humble hard working people! 😊
This area of Italy is inexpensive
Dolomites beautiful
Good job
My dad lived in a small farmhouse with his Italian parents in West PA and had to sometimes eat just onions for sustenance. I need to get back to Italy!
Fantastic video!
Big night🦉
My first time here in 1982…crossing the Dolomites & South Tyrol. We were in a restaurant that never saw an American before. We spent almost a month with a rented car. Traveled all Northern Italy , with two Italian friends from Emilia Romagna.
You can see Austrian influences in the food of Verona.
I’ve never understood the appeal of watching people else eat and drink their way around a country. CNN apparently thinks that they’re either great art or breaking news.
Sono super felice che tu sia in Alto Adige!!! Finalmente! Io sono Veneta nata a Verona 1967 papa' trasferito a Padova 1970 e poi nel 1999 trasferita a Chicago per seguire mio marito 82nd. Airborne Veteran conosciuto a Vicenza…Quando vieni in Veneto a parte Venezia? Ti prego passa per Padova e parlane per un po', una gemma nascosta!!! Keep me inform please! Ciao.
My family came from a small town very close to this area. They too spoke 4 languages even though they were Italian. Speaking German my Dad was especially important in WW11. However ended up at Iwo Jima!!! My grandfather wore knickers every day and a jaunty hat with a feather in it!!! We ate polenta every day.
I watch PBS and Rick Steves; this it right up there in information and quality within Italy alone. Very peaceful, enjoyable and soothing like watching Bob Ross paint happy little clouds with friends in the sky.
I think this is my favorite of Tucci's episodes so far. I love when the Ladin farm owner says at the end, "We are what we are, and we are very tolerant of others."
Stanley Tucci should stick to food and avoid politics & international affairs. Of the latter, he knows 💩. A blood-libeling Hollywood know-nothing.
The effort you made to produce this video is greatly appreciated!
Su italianità e austricità, per me. Diego ha dato la risposta giusta, forse l'unica. Lui è (semplicemente…) Diego.
If I wear a dress, my career would be over? Are you serious?
That National Georgraphics would title this its 'German side' whilst pointing out that it borders is Austria and that the locals call it South Tyrol is lets say interesting and I'm Austrian and German. No offence taken just confused of their Geographical and Historical knowledge…
The real Hungarian goulash (gulyas leves) is a soup.
Other: "… Connecting Europe and Italy.." i thought Italy was in Europe 🤦🏻♂️
What a beautiful Report from a Region which we love so much and visit so often – but learned a lot of new perspectives and history. Thank you 🙏
Nice to see Stanley Tucci between the adverts.
I wonder whether S. Tucci has ever tried sauerkraut before? 😅
I wish there were follow up questions and a description of the flavours. I am curious I guess.
Actually the wealthiest region is Lombardy.. 😊
