Mid-Century Italian Dining Table by Vittorio Dassi, c.1940s
Exceptional mid-century Italian dining table by Vittorio Dassi, dating to the 1940s. This rare and elegant table exemplifies Dassi’s refined approach to post-war Italian design, combining sculptural form, luxurious materials, and meticulous craftsmanship. The rectangular top is finished in deep green glass with delicate gilt detailing along the perimeter, framed by a beautifully shaped solid timber edge. The glass surface offers subtle decoration without overpowering the composition, reflecting the restrained sophistication characteristic of Dassi’s work. The table is supported by twin sculptural timber pedestals, each rising from a shared base in richly veined green marble. Brass detailing at the base of each pedestal provides a refined accent while visually grounding the design. The interplay of glass, timber, marble, and brass creates a harmonious and balanced composition, both architectural and elegant. Designed to command presence while remaining highly functional, this table works equally well as a dining table or statement centre table within a refined interior.
The piece is in very good vintage condition, with minor surface marks and wear consistent with age, adding to its authenticity and character. A highly collectible example of Italian design by one of the period’s most respected makers.
