Not all gelato is created equal โ€” and in Italy, knowing the difference is everything.
Here’s how to make sure you’re always eating the best of the best:
๐Ÿฆ Covered vs uncovered โ€” many say artisanal gelato needs to be in a covered container, and while that’s a good indicator, it’s not an absolute rule. What you want to avoid is gelato piled high in giant fluffy mounds. That’s air and artificial additives.
๐ŸŽจ Check the color โ€” real gelato has natural, muted tones. If the pistachio is neon green or the strawberry looks fluorescent, keep walking.
๐Ÿ“ Look at the fruit flavors โ€” are they using seasonal fruit? If yes, you’re probably in the right place.
