Roast leg of lamb and red wine’s a classic for a reason. The fat and protein mean they can properly keep up with a big red wine. Tannins in red wine bind to the lambโs protein, smoothing the wine and refreshing your mouth between bites.
Tasting:
Catena Malbec
Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva
Cafaggio Chianti Organic
Baron de Lay Club Privado Rioja
The Hedonist Shiraz
Deloach Pinot Noir

I have a very good (generally) sense of smell, so why can I never 'nose' wines or beers?
That Chianti is a banger…got it for ยฃ11 a couple of weeks ago, so keep an eye out for discounts at Waitrose. You'll have to pay full price for Easter though.
Cotes du Rhone and Xinomavro pair beautifully with lamb. We pronounce De Loach with the K sound at the end instead of ch, here in the US. Love your videos โค
Oof I love a bit of GRUNT with me wine ๐
Life is like a Chianti certification Tom…..we all drink wine consciously or unconsciously wanting that the C0CK ends up somewhere…..nothing more for today..
Pinot is a household favorite with lamb chops.
Should have had a Cannonau from Sardegnaโฆ..the perfect match for roast lamb
Fwiw, my favourite pairing with lamb is Amarone! Velvety, rich and more than holds its own against a robust rack of lamb. Cheers!
Get this man on the BBC!
Might as well have something worth watching in return for the poll tax ..
.. maybe after the โeffin watershed though.
Do box o wine ones once very Curious if they are all shit
Tom,don't tell everyone about my Baron De Ley, it's my little secret!
That Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon needs 24 hours to breathe and then it transforms and would have gone well with your lamb. I opened the bottle and was underwhelmed so much that I opened another bottle or something completely different and left the errazuriz in a decanter overnight. 24 hours later, when I was about to throw it away I had a sip and it was delicious. The wine is far too young.
Caffagio used to be a favourite but last time I had some it was really disappointing. Bland and no tannins. Sugary Blackcurrant juice!
You are inCREDIBLE at these types of video. Please add more culinary elements to your content along with the wine. Another brilliant video thanks again wine guy!
I think you may have driven me to drink….but to be fair it was always going to be a short journey ๐
Tom you numpty, if youโre trying six different wines, have Six separate glasses. Come the fourth wine from the same glass you may as well say โOh this wine tastes like youโve thrown in the air a handful of grapes ๐ and theyโve come down plonkโ.
Another beauty Tom ! Thank you..Happy Easter.
How is the Deloach (O.F.S. – Our Finest Selection) Pinot Noir almost 50 dolars here in California! And it's sold out on their website…
Thank you for the vid Tom, can I ask if you have ever covered non sulphite wine? are there any good ones out there? My wife has got an allergy to wine with sulphites in, we have tried a few organic wines that are low sulphite, but they either taste bloody awful or still kick her allergies off
Well what do you know, I've already bought a Cianti for tomorrow's Lamb! Watching you must be rubbing off!!!
textbook is claret
I've just funished some lamb chops with Boutari Naoussa. Great match. Greek reds usually work very well with lamb.
Some ๐ฅ Easter pairings!๐๐พ
Be a little careful with garlic and the dog. It's a actually pretty bad for them. If it's got onions, garlic or even shallots – keep it away from the pooches.
Iโm surprised youโre still buying American with Trump in the White House
For a moment, I was worried about where you were going to shove that cinnamon stick ๐
๐ Iโm a new subscriber but this is up there with my favourite YouTube channels. Love it.
This must have been said before but Tom is like a shit Micheal Hutchence ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Canโt go wrong with Catena. Anything Catena is a win
Had your Wilson Gunn Bellum with our lamb today! Beautiful. Happy Easter!
Could you also talk about temperature of wine when serving as I think this is a real thing that most people sleep on. You get a red down to 16, 17 degrees and itโs clearly the sweet spot
We had a 2020 red Irouleguy on that same shoulder today, fab ๐
โText books are for tossersโ ๐๐
'Shit the bed'!! Classic.
I ended up on a Rioja – El Jefe Grande. It's a broad shouldered bottle but the wine is suprisingly agile for a 14 percent ABV. It's a blend of (5?) grapes from the Rioja region but it's a harmonious mix and more like a Pinot than a bottle of Campo, in my opinion. Unoaked and very fresh and crisp. Nearly ripe strawberry and tart cherries. Slight twang of acidity that made it perfect for a fatty slice of animal. Pretty low tannin, so fine to drink on it's own. 8/10 for me!
Tom you just have to try and 'Coop' wine – Baron De Lay, Reserva, Rioja……heavens above Decanter 24 – 94. Bloody good. Please try it !!!!
Tom,
rest the meat like you breathe yer ruddy wine!
Give it 10 and the meat will roll beautifully round yer gob.
BTW Loving it
that Tom would be a great case of reds right there!!
I think you described old world VS new world very well here
Old world you can drink the whole evening while new world becomes to much after two glasses.
