Oranges 🍊 and other fruit
Here we are on the Adriatic coast of Italy, on a stretch of coast known as the Costa di Trabocchi which is in the region of Abruzzo.
It’s a beautiful area off the beaten track where snow covered mountains meet the sea.
We’re here in search of the most perfumed oranges in Europe.
This small stretch of coast holds a special microclimate perfect for citrus.
It’s a Slow Food Presidium.
Donato Carravaggio, the Vice President of the local citrus association took us under his wing. He explained his orchard was handed down to him from his great great grandfather.
The oldest orange tree was there in 1861 and is still going strong. You can see it here dripping with perfumed golden fruit.
Donato explained that it’s good luck to always travel with an orange or lemon in your pocket.
He never lets anyone leave without one.
We left with the oranges, mandarines and lemons he insisted we pick ourselves.
Come join us on one of our foodie odysseys.
