Florence, Italy, BANS eating in the streets, but tourists flout new law, despite threat of £450 fine. A ban on eating in the street in Florence has come into effect this week – but tourists to the popular Tuscan city appear to be ignoring the new edict. Video filmed today (September 5) shows tourists flouting the ban – despite police officers passing by. New laws, which went into force on Tuesday, ban snacking in four streets in the Italian city’s historic centre popular with tourists. Local businesses in the affected sites have been asked to put up signs warning visitors about the ban in prominent places. Anyone caught snacking on the go could be fined as much as £450, according to reports.
