HAHIRA, Ga. (WALB) — A pizza place in Hahira is going to be featured on America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) Roadshow.
The Slice Pizzeria, located in Hahira, will host a visit from America’s Best Restaurants as part of the roadshow. During the visit, the team with ABR Roadshow will do an extensive, on-camera interview with the owner of The Slice, Estel Powell, about the restaurant’s place in the community.
The Slice has been in downtown Hahira since 2012. Powell took ownership of the restaurant in 2019 while transitioning careers. Powell ended up getting a different full-time job, but kept the pizza place doing at night with his son, Caden, and another partner. Just a few months after taking over, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but The Slice persevered by doing pickup and delivery orders when people most needed them.
Powell and staff also started baking “half loaves” of bread for people in the community when store shelves were running low or bare during the pandemic.
Then in 2023, The Slice became the only Italian brick oven pizzeria in the area. The oven is named Big Papa after customers, family, and friends voted.
OTHER NEWS FROM WALB
“We’re really excited to have America’s Best Restaurants here, and even more grateful that they reached out to us. At the end of the day, this is a chance to show what our staff and our community are all about. We hope it also encourages other restaurants to share what makes them unique, because everybody’s got their own forte worth showing off,” Powell said.
The Slice features some unique items on its menu, such as a fig and bacon pizza, Greek salad, and homemade cannoli. These dishes will be featured on the roadshow episode.
America’s Best Restaurants will be at The Slice Nov. 19. The public is welcome.
The full episode will be put on social media channels at a later date. The premiere date will be announced on The Slice’s Facebook page, as well as America’s Best Restaurants’ website and YouTube pages.
The Slice is located at 406 W Main St. in Hahira.
