Prosecco Isn’t Just Italian!
Does Australian Prosecco exist?
Australia has been producing Prosecco for decades, using the grape traditionally known as Prosecco, now officially called Glera in Italy.
Unlike the European Union, Australia has historically treated Prosecco as a grape variety rather than a protected geographical name.
In March 2026, Australia and the EU concluded negotiations on a trade agreement introducing new restrictions on the use of the Prosecco name, with a 10-year transition period for Australian producers.
Another fascinating story from the world of wine!
