CORALVILLE, Iowa — From Italian comfort food to pizza, burgers and plenty in between, Monica’s has been serving the Coralville area for more than 25 years.
The restaurant’s history actually goes back to Bob’s Your Uncle, which had locations in the Iowa City area. Monica’s originally opened as a small Italian bistro before eventually expanding its menu and moving to its current Coralville location in 2008.
That move came after flooding forced the restaurant to relocate from Mormon Trek Boulevard. The team closed for just a week while moving everything across town, even the restaurant’s large brick oven used to make pizzas and other dishes.
Today, Monica’s has built a menu designed to have something for just about everyone. Along with its Italian dishes, customers can find burgers, wings, pizzas, salmon and an extensive selection of gluten-free options.
There’s plenty of history on the menu, too. Several of Monica’s pizzas are named after people connected to late owner Randy Larsen, and his signature is incorporated into the restaurant’s flame logo.
We stopped by Monica’s to learn more about its history, how the restaurant has changed over the years and, of course, to check out some of the food, including one of its most popular pasta dishes.
