Has Hueber Oaks off Interstate 10 quietly become a center for new restaurants in San Antonio?
Piada Italian Street Food is the newest one to join the shopping center, and it’s open to some social media buzz, so MySA stopped by to try it for ourselves.
The menu: You’ll find made-to-order and customizable pastas, salads, and piadas, which are thin stone-baked dough wraps.
Wait time: After waiting for a little over 10 minutes, I ordered a small basil pesto pasta ($9) and added chicken ($3.10), an avocado piada ($11) and added steak ($5), plus a drink ($4.10).
From our previous reporting: Piada opened its first Ohio restaurant in 2010, and over the past 16 years, the company has expanded into several other states, including Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, North Carolina and Texas. The chain opened its first San Antonio-area location in Schertz back in March, and the Huebner Oaks location will be the first in San Antonio proper.
Price: The total for this lunch came out to $33.77.
Parking: Ample within Huebner Oaks Shopping Center
Verdit: It was honestly better than I expected, considering how quickly everything was made. The piada was fresh and flavorful, and while the pasta didn’t resemble the menu photo, it was tasty.
Would I go back?: Yes, but I’d likely order ahead online for pickup to avoid the line.
