Why would anyone live beneath something that could destroy them? 🌋
In this video, I travel up Mount Etna, the most active volcano in Italy and one of the most active volcanoes in the world, to understand what it really means to live under a volcano.
For tourists, Etna is an adventure – a day trip, a beautiful landscape, a place to take photos. But for the people who live here, Etna is part of everyday life. They see it from their windows, they farm under it, they make wine under it, and they raise families on land that has been shaped by fire.
Mount Etna has destroyed towns, changed the landscape, and reminded people many times that nature cannot be fully controlled. But it has also given Sicily incredibly fertile soil, vineyards, orchards, traditions, and a deep connection between people and the land.
This video is not only about eruptions or danger.
It is about belonging.
About why people stay.
About living with something beautiful, generous, and dangerous at the same time.
As we go up the volcano, I want to show you a more human side of Etna – the black lava, the villages, the silence, the fear, the respect, and the strange beauty of living with fire.
This is Sicily beyond the postcard.
