Popular restaurant chain transforms former Swiss Chalet site into bustling new dining destination with hand-stretched mozzarella, house-made pasta and wood-fired pizzas
Fresh mozzarella was stretched by hand, pasta was served by the plateful and more than 130 new jobs were officially welcomed to Aurora as Scaddabush Italian Kitchen & Bar celebrated the grand opening of its newest restaurant Tuesday.
The popular Ontario restaurant chain has transformed the former Swiss Chalet building near the Walmart plaza into its newest location, bringing its made-from-scratch Italian cuisine and lively dining experience to Aurora.
The restaurant officially opens to the public today, Wednesday, July 29.
Named after the Italian slang expression meaning “a little bit of everything,” Scaddabush combines traditional Italian favourites with a contemporary atmosphere centred around fresh ingredients prepared in-house each day.
“We’re excited to bring our unique blend of Italian indulgence and modern night-out energy to Aurora,” said Mike Cappiello, senior vice-president of operations for SIR Corp.
“We think our Mozza Bar — where mozzarella is stretched by hand and made to order every day — will be a local hit in no time.”
Beyond its signature fresh mozzarella, the restaurant prepares its pasta, pizza dough, focaccia bread, sauces and desserts from scratch. Its pizzas are made with dough matured for 48 hours before being hand-stretched, while the menu also features favourites such as chicken parmesan, rigatoni bolognese and spaghetti and meatballs, alongside artisanal cocktails and half-priced bottles of wine on Wednesdays.
Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas welcomed the restaurant as another sign of the town’s growing business community.
“Congratulations to Scaddabush Aurora on their grand opening!” Mrakas said. “What a fantastic addition to Aurora’s business community. The spaghetti and meatballs were delicious, and the fresh mozzarella is a must-try! Best of all, this new location is creating more than 130 local jobs. Welcome to Aurora.”
The opening breathes new life into one of Aurora’s most prominent commercial properties. The building had sat vacant since Swiss Chalet closed its long-standing location earlier this year.
Scaddabush is part of Service Inspired Restaurants (SIR Corp.), one of Canada’s largest restaurant companies, which continues expanding the brand into growing communities across Ontario.
Located near the intersection of Wellington Street East, Leslie Street and Highway 404, the new restaurant is expected to serve diners from Aurora, Newmarket and surrounding communities, adding another recognizable name to the town’s increasingly diverse restaurant scene.
Scaddabush Italian Kitchen & Bar is located at 28 First Commerce Dr. in Aurora.
