This week didn’t quite go as we had hoped.
After noticing that several items had gone missing from our property, we checked our security camera and discovered that they had in fact been stolen. It’s disappointing to realize that even in such a peaceful place, things like this can happen.
Rather than letting it discourage us, we decide to take action. We build a new gate, put up more signs to protect the property, and start planting a natural hedge that will one day provide privacy, shelter, and a home for wildlife too.
This video is part of our ongoing journey restoring an abandoned farmhouse in the Italian countryside, while learning to live more simply and build a new life in Italy.

Will the authorities be able to punish the thief?
It always baffles me, every time a theft happens in a property. The immediate result being more spending and waste, which otherwise would not have happened
You need to follow up with the carabinieri. They will need chasing, they will know who he is and they need to mediate to get your stuff back. Don't just drop it, make sure you are respected. Pls don't say where u put cameras
The worst part is that the perpetrator is most likely a local, watching these videos.
Deeming them vulnerable and easy to pray upon, with little to no repercussions.
A good chance to see how the local policing works as well.
This should be addressed more seriously than just putting on other signs and fences.

I am so sorry that this has happened to the two of you. He must be local. Have you shown your neighbors? I know what you mean about the worst part is being stolen from vs the loss of money. Understandably you feel betrayed and violated.
I think the natural fence is just brilliant. Some day I hope to visit Italy and look forward to visiting the property and talking with you both. I think I could sit in the sun under that gorgeous sky and just cry with joy. I hope that you can find the man who was so entitled he stole from you….and pray he does not have to return for you to do so.

Hi Nikky, so sorry about the theft. It was lovely to see the winery, I know that town very well and have visited the Bosca one opposite. Wonderful to see the history. Look forward to seeing the fence line finished. Don't overdo it in the heat.
Sorry to hear you had some items stolen, hopefully not from someone that lives close by. I have seen the end result of the barrier you are creating, they called it a 'dead hedge ', it looked really nice. A great way to use up unwanted branches and a great place for insects to call home. feel sorry for Nikki's unfortunate experience, but as an Italian, it also pains me to read certain comments. These responses express with far too much certainty the idea that the thief must be a neighbor.It is sad to see us once again labeled as crooks and criminals by people who do not know Piedmont, the territory, and especially Nikki's neighbors, who have likely lived there for generations, making a living through the hard work of the land.Instead of rushing to judgment, it would be fairer to wait for the proper authorities to investigate before drawing any conclusions. Unfortunately, prejudices and stereotypes die hard. Those who follow and enjoy Nikki's channel should show much more respect for the land and the community that welcomed them.

I have been wondering if theft would be an issue. I lived the country side in Italy and everyone had fences around their homes and big German Shepard guard dogs. I was told it was to protect against theft. Glad you put up a fence and sign but you might consider something more significant as time goes on.
How have locals reacted to you buying the property and fixing it up? Just wonder how welcoming people are in that region of the country? My experience was that if you learned to speak Italian and tried to develop connections with people in Italian they were really appreciative.
