I had an uncle who was connected in Odessa Ukraine back in the 80s and 90s. What he told me about prison and law of thieves. What makes Ukrainians and Russians tough.
You had rocket scientist and mathematicians and very skilled people in the mafia. Soviet times money was so bad these ppl took risks. In 90s it was even worse after end of communism. Those still in power in Russia are almost all from underworld.

I think the clear difference the Russian mob is purely Russian in nature, while the Italians are basically Americans who carry Italian blood and traditions from their Italian ancestors. Basically they are just as much American as Italian.

putin himself may or may not employ nuclear munitions in this conflict. However, that being said, russia itself will not surrender Crimea without deploying nuclear munitions first. putin may well find himself ousted from government, replaced by some radical psychopath like medvedev who will have no problem deploying nuclear weapons all over Ukraine out of sheer rage and spite.
