I spent a day exploring one of Italy’s most unusual villages — the historic town of Calcata, just outside Rome.

From breakfast by the beach to a local farm market, and finally dinner in a town that was once nearly abandoned, this day reminded me why food is about so much more than eating.

Along the way, I visited local producers, tasted fresh ingredients from the Italian countryside, and enjoyed some of my favorite traditional dishes, including Trippa alla Romana and lamb skewers.

Calcata is often known as Italy’s hippie village. Perched on a volcanic cliff, this medieval town was once expected to disappear before artists, musicians, and free spirits brought it back to life.

Join me for a day of Italian food, local culture, hidden places, and simple moments that make life memorable.
