I’d been trying different carbonaras across Italy (and I make my own from scratch at home), but this one at Osteria de’ Cicalini honestly blew me away.
This was one of my favourite meals in Florence. I ordered their truffle pasta at Osteria de’ Cicalini in the historic centre – they bring it out with the egg yolk and cheese on top, then finish everything at the table, mixing the egg through the pasta and adding more cheese and truffle right in front of you. It’s insanely rich, creamy and so satisfying if you love a proper, indulgent pasta.
Florence is famous for its huge T‑bone steaks (bistecca alla fiorentina), but as a solo traveller I knew I’d never finish one. So instead of the giant T‑bone, I went for this “small” fillet and truffle pasta combo and had zero regrets – it felt like the perfect treat after a long day of walking around the city.
If you’re planning a Florence trip and you’re into creamy pastas or carbonara, I genuinely think this is worth adding to your food list. Book ahead if you can, and go hungry.

Solo in Florence: I went for the fillet + truffle pasta instead of the giant T‑bone. Would you share the bistecca with friends or keep this plate all to yourself? 😅
