Nearly in each WSET D3 exam…..
Kakheti and Khashmi specifically is stylistically on an opposing spectrum to Amarone. in general, one has to search hard to find Kakhetian Saperavi with higher alcohol than 13.5%, plus zero stewed, dried and prunie aromas like Amarone. I understood a sentiment but Khashmi was a questionable choice here😅
My book, Warm Room was printed in Verona. They like Ripasso so much that they hope not to sell it.
My good Italian work friend LOVED Amarone, always his #1 choice for wine. Alternative affordable Aldi 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐨 if not on vacation in Italy. Best regards, Steve.
So, I have a dilemma. I have a couple Amarone magnums: 2009 Masi Riserva Costasera and a 2015 Tommasi Amarone. Are these past their prime??
Matthew, a question on style in Taurasi – what is an example of a Taurasi more new-school or Langhe Nebbiolo-esque than Donnachiara?
I was mentally breaking Taurasi up into two categories more based on flavor than texture, and putting Donnachiara, with its fruitiness, 100% into the modern camp and something like Radici, with its dominant iron and smoked meat character, firmly into the traditionalist camp. Love to hear your thoughts.
I'm a big fan of Donnachiara's Fiano by the way. The straight Fiano is the best entry-level Fiano I've had, and I basically pick up every Fiano, entry level or higher priced, in every market I visit.
I would add Primitivo (or even Primitivo-Negroamaro blend) from Puglia, especially if done with "appassimento" method.
Still my Favorite!
