good evening everyone tonight at Tana a
local Chef is remembered as a culinary
genius days after he died while running
the Rock and Roll Marathon on Saturday
thanks for joining us tonight I’m Tracy
cornette and I’m Marius Payton Joey
fetchy was the chef de cuisine at yolan
in downtown Nashville now we’re hearing
from friends and fellow chefs who knew
him closely our Sharon Dan was here with
us tonight Sharon Joey’s friends told
you he was destined for great things
yeah Mari Tracy at just 26 years old
they say fetchy had already accom so
much in his career and that Nashville
has no idea what the city has just lost
and we kind of always try to tell a
story with our food there stories Joey
fety spent years crafting together we’re
taking raw ingredients and then we’re
trying to make it something beautiful
his family says he’s been doing this
since he was 12 going on to cook in
cities like New York Chicago and right
here in Nashville I knew Joey from yolan
just from from dining there and um we
became friends and colleag
um just for me going into the restaurant
Ryan poy the owner of this Italian
restaurant says Joey had a talent like
no other went through all the proper
steps in his career really took took
time to to nurture his career going as
far as being mentored in Italy while
training for a marathon let’s go baby
let’s go let’s go let’s go when that
race day came Joey’s story ended to hear
something like this um yeah I I don’t
I’m at a loss for words I I I I can’t
imagine what his family is going through
right now this was the last time they
saw him smiling through strides at Mile
18 before race officials say they found
him unresponsive at Mile 22 it was a
wave of emotions um it’s such a tragedy
Joey’s family hasn’t explained what
exactly led to his death but poly says
it doesn’t change the fact that the
world has lost someone special we’re
never going to be able to see what what
Joey could have accomplished we’re we’re
never going to be able to see his style
of hospitality or all the things that he
learned so his friend started a culinary
scholarship fund in his name hoping to
help someone else continue his
story now we’ll have a link to that
GoFundMe of the scholarship fund on our
web page for WSMV 4 Marius Tracy Sharon
Dana thank you it’s still not clear why
fety collapsed some viewers have asked
us if there were enough water stations
along the race course so we reached out
to organizers they tell us there were 19
water stations along the course and none
of them ever ran out of water Metro
Police say fet’s death was natural and
they’re not investigating anything
suspicious but there are still some
questions because fety did work out
regularly and he was following a
training program for the marathon
