is brought to you by Casa D’Angelo with
locations in Fort Lauderdale Oka Ron and
Aventura hold the Mayo it’s time for
Mike Mayo’s lunchbox find out what’s
being served with Mike defo and Luby the
only show that covers food Sports and
the proper maintenance of your car and
now a man who had the distinction of
having an entire Health Clinic named in
his honor Mike
Mayo I want the sauce with the awesome f
with chaa on the
[Applause]
side good afternoon everybody and
welcome to another edition of Mike
Mayo’s lunchbox I always like to let the
music play a little bit so people know
and recognize that it is the beautiful
strains uh from Oliver Twist that might
be one of the worst recordings of this
song though where ever where we’ve been
using two and a half years it’s kind of
like when they had the scratches in the
record of the national anthem I remember
remember Robert Merill had to recording
and played it at Yankee games and you
could
hear I think that lends the proper
kitchi and maybe old I the song itself
is a good song man it’s a show tune that
I remember from my youth it’s a great
still to this day yeah um maybe we will
upgrade the uh soundt get somebody to
redo this thing maybe we could also like
add some other food related songs like
we used to have at the old the uh late
great wwnn with Ryan he he got all those
food but you know how Luby is when it
comes to these sort of production
elements I be like I say you can do it
I’m not [ __ ] getting part of my
friend I’m there he goes we got him on
the Cur you got him going right
criticizing the wrong things and we
should just focus on that we have a show
hey hey everybody I suggest a song to
lby he goes what song is that and he
finds like the worst recording of it and
next thing you know it’s part of the
show part of the the history of lawsuits
that’s why we get away like aru I
thought we were allowed to use Snippets
up to like 15 no you can’t use anything
unless you pay money oh I didn’t know
that we only use our friend songs on The
Morning Show because he personally said
you can use these and he wasn’t on a
record label at the time so did the
Oliver Twist people are they have they
expired or they you got a season assist
old as crap so it’s time limit yes the
copyright point is lip [ __ ] still on
retainer as our entertainment lawyer in
case we do get soon I don’t know he just
taking action on the uh on the next game
between the Heat and the in the Celtics
what about the opening theme music which
is like the chaaa on the side I think
that’s also a very old was that ripped
off too I don’t know they gave us took
it and we’ve been using it whole Show’s
in Jeopardy is what you’re saying why
why was I undering the pression that
like Snippets up to like 10 or 12
seconds were allowed to be used
copyright uh CU you were listening to
unscrupulous people on radio stations
you get licensing fees welcome this is
what people want to hear no no I I want
to see how the sauage just made I mean
for licensing fees and radios pay lots
and lots of money for licing fees so you
think wwnn paid lots of money for
anything made a lot of money for the
station before they sold it for far less
as low rent as that place was they did
have to pay to use music that’s why you
notice people don’t go over 30 seconds
because then you’re going above the
licensing fees so that’s why we’re very
standardizing our music here maybe we
can hum a few Tunes ourselves or or
maybe you might be able to do a better
rendition of that food Glorious
Food I think you just did stuff okay I’m
terrible singer I’m going to have to now
go into research mode and find out which
songs have like copyright that have
expired that we could just don’t even
bother we’ll just play the same schlock
opening and we’ll be fine what are you
talking about it’s been working forever
yeah but you know I kind of feel like
some of our U restaurant sponsors that
are always striving for continuous
Improvement like Kaizen which literally
means striving for continuous
Improvement um and uh I’m not sure we’re
using that philosophy here I I will say
this though we just happy to hang on and
is fine stay at a decent level of
mediocrity and hope to check clear but
uh no the pictures from cassid D’Angelo
are spectacular at the top of the show
and I would imagine rather than the uh
you know what what some people would
consider to be cheesy musical interlude
there um that the people would zero in
and focus in on that more so so Luby has
a point here it’s unimportant it’s not
really a big part of the development of
the show and uh let’s talk some food
Mayo you knocked it out of where didn’t
you eat again this weekend what happened
no I’ve been eating everywhere and every
and and my teeth are paying the price
we’re going to get into my dental Saga
in a minute because uh headline my teeth
are eating themselves that that’s
headline Mayo actually has a disorder he
takes eating so seriously that he has a
tooth that is eating
itself passion and dedication it’s it’s
a condition I’ve never heard of even
though my father and grandfather were
dentists but yeah I had a have a little
root canal on a tooth this morning but
when they were doing the scans uh before
doing the root canal now on my they saw
something on the picture number 15 they
saw something on the picture for the
adjacent tooth number 14 and it was a
black hole I mean it’s like you think
the black hole is something up in in the
universe there in the galaxies far away
it’s usually in my wallet after a day at
the track big dark hole but this black
hole was inside the tooth it there’s no
external uh visibility of Decay but when
you look at these scans he basically
said it’s a a condition known as
resorption which is where the tooth is
eating itself oh you know what that used
to happen uh from ingesting too much
cocaine right wouldn’t it wouldn’t it
carve a little hole in your nose uh I’m
just on meth I don’t understand
right doing something man no it’s okay
it can be from chemical I because I was
looking it up now like I said you got to
watch what they cut this stuff chemicals
Burns or trauma uh actually I could have
done something to my tooth it might be
all those big bites it’s a big bite yeah
no doubt about it you know what’s
amazing about the big bite is how many
like highend and high class and and very
very uh you know accomplished restaurant
tourist live for the Big Bite yeah you
know you would think that this would be
the last thing that they would want this
disgusting practice of yours to be
exhibited in their restaurant or to be
at all suggested or implied that it was
acceptable there and then they all call
for it they’re all like yeah take a big
bite of a piece of salmon and you can
almost hear the insertion of the words
you
jerk as they’re doing this but uh maybe
that that could be you know I thought it
would be upsetting and quite frankly U
revolting to a lot of these high class
restaurant tours but now when we go back
no I mean guys like Bert raport they
whip out their phones and they’re
starting to take videos they bring a
video crew in what are you talking about
they hire people like a great
expense capture these moments so louby
can post them on Tik Tok and all of a
sudden the show becomes even more
popular and they’re posted I mean
they’re disappointed if I don’t do it if
I say my doctor says I shouldn’t my
endodon says my teeth are eating
themselves they I don’t think anybody
listens to any of that anymore they
they’ve learned to tune all of that
medical stuff associated with mayo right
out you know when you start with I could
eat this or I might be able to have a
bite of that nobody’s listening to that
they’re just looking at the food and
they’re saying what are these guys doing
today I’m a trained monkey hey speaking
of trained monkeys did you see this
story in the Sun Sentinel today about it
seems like somebody think about when you
just said see this oh no the sunsel we
love the sunset
for they are partners of ours symbiotic
relationship we love Gretch and Dave
Bryant who but not a lot of people
getting the newspaper delivery well
again it’s all about the uh digital age
and I have my digital subscription oh
you do oh good good yeah and then I also
get the Sunday is that complimentary for
life after working there for years but I
have it’s one of these bundle packages
where you get a digital subscription for
the daily paper and I get physical
actual hard copies on Saturday and
Sunday
the on my
door I don’t know how much is on a buck
is on like a bu they used to have an
introductory price now it seems like my
credit card gets charged 75 bucks every
two month or something like that I’m too
lazy to for some coupons yeah I’m gonna
but the digital Edition is good but
anyway the Suns Sentinel had a story
today about how you know there’s this
colony of monkeys right behind the
airport in daa beach and along daa Beach
Boulevard and I actually see them from
time to time hanging out on Dany Beach
Boulevard uh but it seems like somebody
has uh either pilfered or just abducted
one of those monkeys from The daa Colony
and is now going around and has become a
Tik Tock star this monkey is being used
to do things like smash TVs in hotel
rooms uh go out to eat in restaurants
it’s racked up more than a hundred
million views on Tik Tok we had a name
for that monkey uh it was a guy named
veto he rest in peace that’s why I can
say this but now there’s become some
considerable debate among some of the
zoologists and scientists saying this
guy illegally basically abducted the
monkey the guy’s uh story is that it was
given to him donated to him by a lab
that no longer had use for the monkey
but uh
story that sounds donate monkeys to
regular people to use in Tik Tok videos
um but they but then he has them like
posing and eating together side by side
like fried chicken there’s this they get
along the monkey is taken to them like a
buddy I wild monkey is just like tame as
it could be and is a perfect pet are you
kidding me what kind of circus is this
guy writing about they were eating
chicken side by side and the monkey
didn’t bite the guy’s face off so I
assume it’s kind of a well behav this
monkey sticking around on first
opportunity it’s vamos but it’s so
insane that like what is there any more
Florida story than that than a guy
abducting a monkey from The daa Colony
and then making how much how much
monetization do you think somebody can
get from a 100 million views of a monkey
on Tik Tok you can get a lot if they can
do it regularly I just yeah they’re
committing criminal acts and they’re
videoing them so that well in that case
why don’t I go out on daa Beach
Boulevard right now and get myself a
monkey having right on this show it
wouldn’t work for you though it’s only
going to work for a guy like this
whoever this unscrupulous so is who
stole this monkey from the
wild and now is trying to capitalize on
it what is he I mean PT Barnum who is
this guy I don’t know it’s it’s some
local I don’t know who the guy is I I
did not go that deep into the story I
just kind of my jaw dropped it’s
probably somebody we know though Michael
and and you know you probably should be
embarrassed when we figure he did he
looked familiar it might have been from
a radio station or a poker table that uh
that played with but um I might need a
monkey soon to do my eating for me if my
teeth keep eating themselves that’s the
it’s only one tooth you can get by
without it all right yeah and it’s not
like it has to get yanked just yet uh I
I have to monitor it so U but they
always find something you should know
this from being the son of a dentist yes
when did I ever look at a set of X-rays
and not find something else other than
what you came in for and that’s the
thing that is even more disturbing and
more imposing of a problem than what you
originally were trying to have treated
yeah and that’s the thing this day and
age it’s not it’s not even visible on
the regular x-rays they have these
high-tech scanners so it’s like that
thing that goes around your head that’s
kind of the 363 that’s expensive though
they don’t tell you it’s like an
upcharge at a restaurant they don’t tell
you what it’s going to cost no this was
this was an all-inclusive package today
uh root canal plus the ultra fancy scan
for
$1,600 you should I mean you you should
have a new page man this would be
perfect uh let’s go get some Dentistry
or whatever South Florida let’s eat then
imagine the complaints on there about
the hidden cost and everything cuz when
you get whacked for that I I remember
one time I was out of Dennis and he
seemed he was great he was a huge fan of
mine it turned out and so he was talking
and everything was cool and he was going
to do all these great things for me but
then he put me in that little thing that
circles around your head yeah and I I
really I didn’t even need the exam he
just said hey you want to you know get
your teeth examined here so like I
figured it was my head that was going to
get examined I thought it might do me
some good and then uh I got whacked for
like 150 just for sitting there for like
one second that’s and I thought well it
didn’t say anything about paying for
this you know how well we were
accustomed to being treated Mike Mayo
from being in the media there are no
comps yeah uh I’ve learned that um no
comps there well it’s a good thing that
the thing didn’t go spinning around my
head because they might have found that
my brain is eating itself no you’re fine
go there we’ll see you’ve never been
sharper than you are right now I hope so
um man but it’s gonna be a big day here
uh and and of course I we got that new
Conant dangelo opening because today is
May May 1st Mayday besides new laws
going into effect which we don’t even
want to get into uh but we also have new
sponsors that are including Casa
D’Angelo and we love Angelo Elia we had
a great show at the Fort Rell Flagship
last week the guy really is a genius man
I mean what he did over there was
fantastic and then the expansion really
really well orchestrated uh you know
it’s a tremendous Story I mean really
Rags to Riches this guy he he talk about
quality and talk about like I I would
never have guessed that he’d want to
with the likes of us but he he likes us
and he enjoys I like it it’s me I like
him he enjoys the show actually Angelo
masan NOA who’s his uh Chef to cuisine
at the Fort Lael location is a regular
viewer so hello Angelo a lot of I found
a lot of people in the business when
they get done with their shifts and they
get done drinking for the night and
they’re kind of trying to unwind in bed
they just put on the show and they fall
right to
sleep probably 12 minutes in I would say
today would have been enough to knock
most people out but you know what the
place I I remember going there when they
first opened up the one the location
there in Sunrise in federal yeah Federal
Highway 1997 it it was a frequent stop
for me I mean the food there was just so
overwhelmingly good quality and uh you
know it it maintain that I mean the last
time I was there it was very much the
same so unsurpassed people love it yeah
in terms of quality and just like class
you know you talk about obviously our
friends at Tropical Acres and Jack Dy
Ali exudes class Angelo Ilia ex exudes
class and he’s got three locations of CA
D’Angelo now besides the Fort Lauderdale
Flagship got one up in boka Ron uh
that’s on Palmetto Park Road and that
one uh is gorgeous but it’s going to be
moving because they’re moving like down
the block to new digs a whole new uh
highrise is going up and they’re going
into a bigger location and then I’ve got
the one in Aventura is that highrise
ever going to be built I I blow by there
quite frequently and uh yeah that
highrise has been being worked on I mean
how many times have the developers run
out of
cash that thing’s been going up for like
12 years I think they got different
permitting look finished I mean it looks
close to the end but that’ll again again
the boo location will be open in its
current space until the new location is
ready to go and then Aventura which they
built and it opened right before the
pandemic it’s a gorgeous room there’s
going to be some news coming out of that
building soon which we’re going to break
here when the time is right but uh let’s
just put it as a very very well-known
and popular Chef in the fort Lal area
will soon be helming the kitchen at the
Aventura location where we will
hopefully have our next remote show uh
fora D’Angelo sometime in early June
with this new Chef along with Angelo but
again uh welcome aboard to ca D’Angelo
and we also have to give a big hearty
welcome to jnc Oyster which is the wow
you love this place sick sick you You’
broke many of your uh you know standard
rules to go in there and uh and then
came back with I mean just Ray reviews
yeah well because you you went against
your Credo I don’t go anywhere for a
month well this was an exception to the
rule for a number is that how he says it
Loomi exactly well my usual thing is
anywh for a
month he said the first like two or
three months like a weir for the rule
where you’re never going in back when I
was a Suns reviewer I would never really
write a I wouldn’t go in in the first
month I wouldn’t write a review for at
least two or three months cuz again it’s
like yeah they retool themselves
sometimes they tweak some things and
even if you think of places going full
Bard you know you got to see how it all
shakes out but this for jnc oyster right
out of the gate you talk about you know
like some of these horses that just show
brilliant speed and class right out of
the gate like fierceness uh possibly in
the Kentucky Derby certainly in the
Florida Derby but jnc oyster okay here’s
why I broke my own rule number one
ex-wife Michelle went in there like
opening weekend and just raved about it
and said like this place has all its
stuff together right from should she be
doing a regular stint here on the show I
don’t know how that would affect social
relationship but seems to be very
knowledgeable and have a strong opinion
about the good places no yeah and we had
Val maker debut the other day she she
she was tremendous also I mean doubt bch
uh but uh yeah well so Michelle went in
there and okay so the other thing that
lured me in uh on a speedier schedule
than usual is because the pedigree of
the people behind it Chef Raheem sely
and his co-chef Monica Dominguez they
have worked at some of the finest
restaurants in Miami some of the
restaurants in Miami that I awarded like
top fourstar ratings when I was the Sun
Sentinel critic places like Q Kyu in
Winwood Raheem worked there from the
get-go under the original founding show
Mike Lewis and then Raheem took it over
when Mike left and uh Raheem also worked
at Zuma which is a very high-end also
Seafood Asian themed restaurant in
downtown Miami he also worked for our
friend Tim and Belo at sugarcane that
was his first kind of real uh you know
fine dining job sugarcane been a
Mainstay in the Midtown Miami area for
over 10 years and that’s how Tim and
first really got some uh rowned and uh
so with a background like that I said
this guy you know I I just want to taste
his food I don’t want to wait I went in
there with my friend the stalkers meet
the stalkers a great photography couple
that uh Mike still works the Sun
Sentinel but anyway uh we had a
fantastic like we ordered 12 dishes it’s
one of those places that has these small
plates and again every bite was
exceptional and I said this place is
lunchbox worthy they’re brand new
they’re in an area of town that
sometimes gets overlooked right there on
2035 Harrison Street that block has had
its ups and downs but I said you know
what maybe we can work to together and
do each other some good because I want
that place to succeed because uh when it
does succeed Raheem is going to bring
his very famous and well-known drinking
pig barbecue concept to the same block
hopefully with the backing of the jnc
oyster owner Caesar and uh it’s going to
spark a whole food Revival on that block
and uh it’s it’s going to be fantastic
so I urge everybody to get down there
and check it out I I mean we are raising
the bar here which is why I was saying
maybe we could get to a little bit
better soundtrack music but if it’s
gonna cost us money forget about it the
minute you mentioned it Luby went
into he his teret syndrome broke out and
I I just want to let everybody know that
anytime you do hear a curse word against
uh let’s eat South Fara policy it’s
because of his Tourette’s it’s a
definitely something that is a diagnosed
syndrome and uh
Luby keeps working on it this is in poor
tense but you could appreciate it U I’m
in Las Vegas and I sit down I don’t play
poker as you know I’m not a poker player
but I figured I’d give it a shot and and
I can’t lose I mean every hand i’m
ranking in money I just by the fistful
and then I I come out and I see Jersey
KY he says what were you doing playing
poker I said man you know what I’m
sitting down in this table and I
couldn’t believe the Tells I mean these
guys were literally giving away
everything they had in their hand right
away and then heting an Oreo cookie yeah
that’s worse than that I mean like
making all kinds of noises and you know
different bodily you know conceptions
and all kinds of crazy stuff so um sure
enough he points to the sign he says
well no wonder man and it was the Tet
poker
tournament I mean so you don’t know if
you’re really getting the signs or not
man I mean was was this the Houston
Astros or or you know was this just the
illusion I mean this poor taste though
very poor
taste for those who do suffer from
condition we mean no offense but um I
mean but uh that kind of term it
intrigues me so like they get do seven
offit do they start saying mother 27 off
soon all of a
sudden if they get Aces what do they do
holy
[ __ ] this not a good segment probably
was basing the whole thing on on you
know radical falsehoods can we it up
yeah 7c delay possible on the internet
you might want to dump all it in I would
you know especially since we have new
sponsors yeah now this jnc oyster though
is is drawing I mean it’s not just you
and it’s not motivated by the fact that
they are taking a sponsorship well now
they’re a sponsor but you know but man I
mean literally getting re reviews now
now you know you hear Oyster House so so
what what things obviously they they
would have Oysters and we we can imagine
they have a strong solid variety like
some of our other uh places do too but
what what would be the main thing that
you would go there for I mean besides so
the obvious Raheem you know is still
kind of using those influences that he
got from Zuma and Q which was these kind
of Asian flavors and uh a spin on dishes
so like he does a like a Sriracha hot
chili butter that you can dunk a lot of
dishes in he has a cold noodles with
crab meat that has some spice in it and
also some of those like kind of t
uh kind of highend innovative stuff yeah
highend Innovative small plates that can
be shared so those who love Seafood you
got every kind of thing like he does
this red Thai curry crab with this
Jasmine sticky rice that was one of the
best dishes I ate it looks ridiculous he
does like an avocado and king crab salad
so there’s a lot of crab on the menu but
there’s also grilled oysters there’s
some fish dishes he’s doing this um
Lobster rotto with a marscapone cheese
and a little bit of cream uh did not eat
that but the table next to me did and I
kind of dove in because don’t tell me
you took a fork full of somebody else’s
food another table you know why man cuz
it was it just by happen stance we
getting we came to the restaurant at the
same time my group and Connie Ole the
food editor from the Sun Sentinel she
Liv in Hollywood she came to check it
out the same night just by chance and
then we ended up just getting tables
next to each other and we were just
where is anybody in there that was not a
food critic
this poor guy has been subjected to this
kind of scrutiny that you would see at
the Trump hush money trial what are you
talking about well actually Connie wrote
up a very nice you know they don’t do
they don’t do formal reviews but she did
do a food feature on Raheem and jnc as
did our friend Phil valis at the Sun
Sentinel just when it first opened so it
is getting you know some publicity and
positive buzz and we’re going to be
doing a show there on May 8th a week
from tonight and we’re going to go in
there oh happy hour because they don’t
open for lunch and I know sometimes we
go in for uh to talk with chefs in the
daytime when they’re not in service but
Caesar the owner he wanted to get the
full life of the place so he wanted us
to come in and do a happy hour edition
like we’ve done at some other places and
uh uh it’s kicking off a big month I
mean tonight we’ve got a live Edition
from the um the new the 954 Burger month
and burger Beast is going to stop by and
be a a guest co-host uh later on at
lauder l and i let him say whatever he
wants to say oh yeah I’m gon just turn
the mic over to
him it’s like the one thing you never do
like if you’re in the ring or
interviewing an athlete after a game is
let the guy grab the mic because now
you’ve lost control of the situation but
I would even let the burger beast grab
the mic tonight when it comes to make
amends for the last time he was on the
show when it yeah and he says he it
wasn’t me he was mythed at it was Dave
arbit because he was he was turned into
a glorified wa but he’s just covering up
now because he wanted to patch things up
with you cuz obviously you’re going to
publicize his event tonight yeah that’s
it well he’s not going to cook anything
tonight but he’s going to be there um
and it’s going to be fun because because
he doesn’t have to cook any of his own
burgers tonight he’s just kind of
helping out and being an official
Ambassador because how does he like his
Burger in terms of temperature well he’s
he a Smash Burger guy so all those Smash
Burgers are inherently medium well to
you know are you getting all those Smash
Burger reals that I’ve been sending you
where are you inclined to ignore all of
that stuff I didn’t know what you were
doing if you’re just trying to it’s just
I’ve see all this weird food stuff
popping up and I always think hey send
that to Mayo you’re becoming worse than
Soni when it comes to that I’ve started
no I mean I’m not making any um judgment
on it I’m just sending it to you because
it looks cool hey before we go to the
first break uh once we should just
conclude the Mayo Clinic Medical half
hour what what what happened with your
MRI what’s oh well nothing I mean I went
for it and uh we’ll see that it takes
two days to get the results from this
place yeah okay so there was no
immediate reaction I the belief is is
that possibly there’s some kind of tear
back there but not necessarily to the
severity level of needing surgery so I
think I’ll live okay well uh speaking of
people who had uh partly torn Achilles
and some sagas I had dinner with dixen
last night oh really he T his ailles
this game last summer I guess right at
the time that pickle ball don’t tell me
pickle ball no he was a tennis he’s a
tennis player just like you and uh
carrying a little extra weight last
summer and he suffered a partial tear
that originally they were doing trying
to do treatment with phys physical
therapy and some other things turns out
he had to be immobilized and rest and
basically wear a boot for like three or
four months they gave me a boot I’m
hoping uh you know not to do too much
with it but uh I’m hoping I get a little
pass coming there’s some relief in the
area today so okay well he said that he
basically did nothing he’s so sick I
shouldn’t share all these medical things
but yeah he he gained 31 lbs
deliberately when he was in the boot
because he wanted to be able to qualify
for uh some of these new age diabetes
drugs so he basically deliberately put
himself into the diabetes zone so he
could get onto the mongero and it sounds
like it’s out of the whale I mean what
kind of concept is
that I don’t know that I want to eat
myself to death I’m not sure about you
Michael no I’m I’ve turned the corner I
think I’m down seven pounds people are
saying my face looks a little bit like
you do look like a lot younger almost
like that mug shot that you had you know
in the sun above your colums I’m trying
hey um let’s take our first break but
first I got to put in the good words
about our friends at Tropical Acres they
celebrated their 75th anniversary in
April and now it’s on to 75 more May 1
wow uh it is a new month and 75 years
lasting here in South Florida as a
standout establishment that is that is
really something it’s remarkable it
really is and for those who somehow have
never managed to go in there in the
first 75 years well why don’t you get
your butts in there today because what
are you waiting for Wednesday is a great
day um it’s you know you get your happy
hour in the bar from 4:30 to 6:30 get a
couple of nice cocktails that half price

get there the service and everything uh
at the price unbelievable uh when you
think about it because you know you go
into a comparable place in terms of
service and quality of food and it
wouldn’t be uncommon to pay even even
three times as much no as as you’re
paying at Tropical Acres which is a very
pleasant uh you know sidebar of of what
goes on there because when the check
comes it doesn’t hit the table like a
brick that’s for sure it’s light as a
feather that’s it everybody doesn’t
scatter you know I got a text from one
of my friends we were dining out with
another gentleman who we thought was
probably going to pick up the check
which he did and uh the text from my
buddy from across the table was uh meet
me in the men’s room when the check
comes just gonna let it sit
there you don’t have to do that at
Tropical Acres oh my arm doesn’t No it’s
h again very very uh Great Value and of

you all right we’re back on The Lunchbox
and uh right before the show I posted uh
for everybody’s consumption I usually
just send the list to Luby but uh the
May schedule for The Lunchbox and we are
really uh you know we’re getting bigger
better and better than ever um I mean
not just one to two every weekday which
uh we will be doing uh but we’re
breaking format a lot where we’re going
uh different special editions tonight
we’re going to again the 954 Burger
month kickoff that’s in conjunction with
our friends Phil and Kate from the visit
Lauderdale Food and Wine Festival at
Lauder Al uh this place defo it is hard
to find it’s Oh I thought you were going
to Gilberts on this thing no no Gilberts
is May 19th they’re having a special
ticketed event with Burger beast and
again go online to 954 bon.com V food
wine.com or eventbrite.com and you get
tickets for the big Gilbert’s event
Sunday May 19th which uh usually
Gilberts is closed but they will be open
for this event but you need a ticket for
that I won’t be making it to that event
because it’s uh I got something just a
little more important on the schedule
that is my daughter’s High School
graduation Oh I thought you were going
to announce
something no oh God no no all right yeah
it could be you know you never
know so the uh that is the 19th tonight
is the kickoff event we’re going to be
doing a 6 PM extra broadcast uh and then
next uh this Sunday coming up Cinco de
Mayo noon uh we’re going to be
broadcasting from tacocraft imp
Plantation with our
friendto because they have an annual big
Cinco Deo party that rotates around the
different Taco CEST they’re doing it at
the plantation walk location I have
never been to that location yet I’ve
seen it from across the street but I’ve
never been inside there and I think they
also kind of do it like a block party uh
that’s going to be fun and uh got to
probably drink some more of those
Tequilas and riivos or whatever the the
good stuff is
called they they make a hell of a house
Margarita there though they do sometimes
the house Margarita even in Mexican
restaurants doesn’t really uh you know
move me in any One Direction or the
other but uh they do a very refined
classy house Margarita at Taco nice no
they do a lot of classy things there
they again um they put some more I guess
uh you know upscale spins on traditional
Mexican
Tech and uh again some of the uh you
know the things that they do like the
short rib tacos or some of the other you
know the shrimp it’s just good quality
ingredients they’re going to be opening
their Coral Springs location soon I
imagine we might be getting in there for
a show at some point uh and then in
terms of the other special editions our
usually our usual rotation going around
at the lunch hour uh we’re going to be
at Grandpa’s next Wednesday morning for
that special breakfast Edition at 10:30
a.m. because Mark freed he likes to get
done early and I tell you what even he
said he watched the show back and that
he really liked it he said the interplay
and the timing I said yeah everybody’s
getting a little better uh so it’s uh he
really enjoys that and it’s uh better
earlier so defo if it’s too early for
you or actually it’s in the middle of
your other thing now but this another
show work yeah we we’ll we’ll get it
we’ll get it off the ground and then uh
later that day we’re going to be doing a
double header uh happy hour edition from
jnc oyster at 5m Then I then I’ll have
to check out that you can come and
absolutely check out um and again we
just keep going you know and we’re going
to be doing another Special Edition next
Monday from friend of mine Jimmy Evert
very uh very respected local Chef he
opened up his own place in Boon Beach
gosh I can’t believe it’s like seven or
eight years ago it’s called Driftwood
and Jimmy used to work for my friend
Giovani at the old Valentinos but Jimmy
very talented dad uh no it’s not Chris
ever’s Dad this is a younger Jimmy Evert
and uh he uh he’s married and they run a
really nice restaurant and they’re doing
a special event later in the month but
in uh I guess promotion of that we’re
going to go up next Monday they’re not
in service so don’t come on out and look
for lunch that day uh but we’re going to
sit down and talk talk with him Monday
in Pointon you can check out the full
list of our remote schedule remote Road
shows on the let’s E Group and uh again
there will be new show shows added to
the schedule all the time there’s a
bunch of other places we got to get into
Heritage our friend Reno we got a uh
we’re gonna go into uh miso Japanese
Tois our friend Tuan uh we’re gonna go
check out Tom’s Louisiana Kitchen in his
new dig that looks great we just got to
figure out the slots on the schedule
because they’re all gone it’s like we’re
already going to get into June it’s kind
of too popular Mayo look what happened a
monster we created a monster movie never
a bad thing a monster whose teeth are
eating themselves that was the funniest
thing ever he whines a lot about his own
condition but this is self-imposed all
of this stuff all your problems no I’m
glad you’re dealing with them though
it’s good because the people are rooting
for you for sure yeah no I’m rooting for
myself that’s for sure um let’s talk H
some playoffs we didn’t really talk much
Sports yesterday today but a lot going
on congratulations to the Florida
Panthers they Advanced they beat finally
their Nemesis longtime Nemesis the Tampa
Bay Lightning I didn’t realize this steo
that the eastn conference Champion
that’s been representing the east in the
Stanley Cup for the last like four years
has been from Florida like Tampa three
times or four times and then Florida
last year so I bet that drives the rest
of the league crazy that’s all these
Floridian teams that have been hogging
only thing stranger would be uh the
former Arizona Coyotes now moving to
like Salt Lake City Utah to become the
Osman I’m not sure what the name of the
team’s going to be but that that would
have been uh more strange and no Tampa I
I mean both in baseball and hockey
well-run organizations beyond the scope
of what you could possibly anticipate
and when you see the failures and
catastrophic results that are often
achieved by organizations that that
think they have it together I mean you
look at these two organizations
constantly I don’t know how the rigns do
it but the Tampa Bay Lightning been been
very good for a long time nobody does
more with less although I did enjoy
seeing uh what’s his name Cooper uh the
coach who has that smug face I know he’s
I think really he’s a nice guy he’s a
decent guy but he just has that on that
bench he’s got that douchy smug look
that like I just loved every time they
scored a goal in the third period he
seemed resigned to the idea that the
officials were very much in favor of the
Panthers moving on in that series
because wait did did they swallow their
whistles in that third just allowed
goals uh you know both looked similar
and both would have been 5050 and yet
they they got rid of both of them so hey
that was a huge difference maker I think
in that game just getting back to
Phoenix the coyotes going to Salt Lake
City first of all are they changing the
name to from the coyotes are there
coyotes in Utah no but I mean what Jazz
do you ever think about taking in when
you’re right that’s when when you’re in
Salt Lake City Utah zero I mean even
have a musician there besides the no
better Jazz than Mormon Jazz I tell you
that Tabernacle Choir really
scat like nobody else nobody’s business
no but saying about this in the NBA I
mean s can relate to this because you
you can’t find the Cleveland Orlando
series anywhere on TV I mean it’s not on
any of the main stations and so I I
finally find it and it was following
like a Joel o Stein sermon did they put
that on True TV I’m not sure where they
put that would be the one time if they
put that that playoff series on peacock
nobody would protest cuz nobody yeah
nobody gives a flying one I mean even
Adam Silver wants this thing buried I
don’t know why it’s a actually been a
pretty compelling series uh but getting
just one second more about the Salt Lake
City whatever they’re going to be called
um if there’s always bribery involved
though anything moving to Utah you know
that if they do you you’ve been to Salt
Lake City right do you know what goes on
when you order a drink in a bar I I I
can’t say that I’ve spent enough time
there to consider okay I was I was there
for the 2002 Winter Olympics so I’ve got
all the experience with salt lak
uh did you see the Bley that Juan
Antonio samaranch had that was given to
him by the committee for awarding the uh
State the site the they don’t you know
because of you know Mormons and their
antipathy to alcohol they don’t have
regular siiz bottles in the bars um they
have the little mini liquor the the
airplane bottles what you get in that’s
what you have to buy by law and again
there’s no like open bars you have to
join a membership Social Club in order
to get any place that has alcohol and
then they serve it in these little
things so what I wonder is if this Salt
Lake City hockey team eventually does
win the Stanley Cup how are they going
to fill it you know the the cup with
champagne they’re going to have to get
all these tiny little airplanes size
splits of champagne to fill it it’s
goingon to take they’re going to come to
your place and get all that Selzer that
you stashed away when it was $5 a
piece when you’re on that Selzer
kick oh man meanwhile is the heat done
are we sticking a fork what’s they’re
literally gonna be short eight guys
they’re gonna be they’re literally short
eight guys like if the Celtics don’t win
tonight then that is utterly pathetic
like utterly pathetic well no this is it
they got decimated by injuries it’s the
usual I guess uh you know look they’re
they battled valiantly all these past
years making it to the finals and uh you
know finally the the gas is empty from
the tank I guess the question is do they
totally revamp the team do they now I
mean Jimmy Butler I don’t even know his
contract situation but do you now trust
the guy anymore or Kevin Durant coming
in the heat oh God he’s washed up I
don’t even I I I want new blood fit the
heat perfectly to be brutally honest
Kevin Durant perfect score what he can
do he can come out of bed and he come he
missed like a year and a half and then
was averaging like 28 a game he’s just
keeps he needs to get out of his own way
and he needs to stop following LeBron
where he needs to tell people where he
wants to go and what roster he wants
like as we can tell that doesn’t
freaking work like let the organization
do their job yep well this is one place
where you know the The Man In Charge is
still you know Pat Riley and uh going to
let a player call the shots here and
maybe that’s why Lebron left early on
because he knew he never was going to be
to be you know calling the shots here
and uh look it worked out for him he did
win a title back in uh you know
Cleveland and he won some in LA and you
know I think I you know I hate the whole
LeBron MJ debate but the fact that
LeBron won multiple titles in multiple
places to me
I think that’s impressive to be able to
do it with different you know casts of
characters around you in different
locations with different narratives uh
I’m giving the not to LeBron you know I
I I just I’m sorry I just think uh this
is the one of these silly Sports debates
that I don’t even know why I brought it
on but I just I just I just don’t get
LeBron haters I mean what’s what’s the
hate the guys because people are
nostalgic and who they think is great so
they blame the new guy even though it’s
not the new guy’s fault for great it’s
like hating Anthony Edwards because he’s
athletic and fun to watch and if you’re
a LeBron guy it’s same thing with the
Kobe people the Kobe people hated LeBron
it’s like LeBron and Kobe was one of
LeBron’s Idols they were actually really
good friends like to hate them because
the other guy won’t get his it’s a lot
of the Joe Montana fans hate Tom Brady
because Tom Brady’s the next great
quarterback it’s like look I like Dan
Marino I can’t say that Tom Brady’s not
freaking better like I’d be a total jerk
off to like and it doesn’t change
anything about D Marino because like but
people do that that’s how sports fans
are it’s we’re become religious zealots
is what sports idolatry become just love
to argue like a couple of people on
let’s eat talking about a SE charge well
there’s no answer to that question
stupid I mean are you wrong in defending
either guy probably not no no no look MJ
look the Supreme competitor obviously
Killer Instinct but you know let’s face
it he had freaking Scotty Pippen and and
uh you know some great Supporting Cast
around him all those years
didn’t hurt to have Rodman on the boards
yeah Rodman on the boards so yeah what
all these great three-point Shooters he
had I know he they’re you know strengths
and weaknesses to both arguments but u i
I’m just looking at this guy at 39 years
old and even in a losing effort let’s
face it they actually push the Denver
Nuggets who most people think will
probably be in the championship round
again but even though it’s more
competitive probably this year couple of
young teams coming up but um 39 years
old to be doing what he’s doing in the
NBA and having done it and sustained it
at that very same level I mean right
around the same level for 20 plus years
yep I mean we we remember uh Michael
Jordan being kind of an NBA bag lady
with the Wizards at the end of his
career so um yeah I mean you know that
there’s reason to make a case for LeBron
James one more reason why I kind of give
the nod to LeBron because in terms of
sustained greatness over a longer period
of time um I’ll give him the nod hey
back to hockey real quick so the
Panthers this is great because um you
know I guess we we got the Rangers
looking really good they’ve Advanced to
the next round I guess they’re going to
be playing the Carolina Hurricanes is
that right and we get the winner of the
Maple Leafs Bruins two teams that the
Panthers beat in last year’s playoffs
and you know I don’t want to look ahead
because that gets to be a dangerous
thing but if it is a Rangers Panthers
Eastern Conference Final my question is
how much will you have to pay for a
ticket to go to whatever they’re calling
the arena relative term pay and what’s
the ratio calling Reno and telling him
hey you know what I’ve been a big fan of
Roberto loango my whole life I I would
just really love to meet him how about
it tonight’s game by the way can you get
me a ticket well I’ll call Phil and say
how about that County box
maybe County people know H Stacy R might
have some PLL there with these
politicians yeah but my other question
is can’t they pull the license for Booze
at the building if we don’t get free
tickets that’s right but even during
regular season Rangers Panthers games
the building is stocked I would say with
majority of Ranger fans where it’s
usually like 5050 or even maybe 55 45
Rangers and so does that mean if it’s
that the Rangers Panthers matchup that
the Rangers will have seven home Gams
ostensibly I don’t know I don’t know the
Panthers have a nice following they’ve
actually as much as we joke about their
crowds they’ve had really good crowds
all year long yeah so but they’re still
know they they they tend it’s not five
years ago like they’ve been to the
playoffs what four years in a row or
five years in a row were number one SE
two years ago they were in the Stanley
Cup finals like their fan base is pretty
strong that the New York what you’re
hearing in Philadelphia they’ll have
their fans
obviously but I think Panther fans will
be there nice in a nice numbers I
there’s a lot of people like me those
with like kind of the Dual passports and
dual allegiances where they like kind of
still root for both teams and you know
when it gets to one or the other it’s
like I don’t know I guess I’d like to
see the Panthers win it all cuz they
never have they’ve made it the finals so
you know the Rangers I’ve seen it in my
lifetime granted it was a very rare
occasion like one of those haly’s comets
or something or a
lunar uh but uh yeah I’m I’m pulling for
them to go all the way and they do look
God that it’s just a team that seems to
always respond no matter what the
situation and how could you not love
Matt kachuk the guy is just a freaking
gamer and I as a hockey fan I just love
to watch him so uh it’s going to be uh
fun all right we got to take two more
breaks we’re running out of time uh
let’s talk about our friends at bat new

[Applause]
you all right we’re back on The Lunchbox
almost time for another commercial break
but first I want to talk a little bit
about uh dinner with dixin last night so
we checked out the uh new place uh
called lellos it’s in Coral Springs it’s
near I guess casad de Lui but um a chef
named Bruno who used to work for our
friend Eddie pizoli at the Tavolino
restaurant that’s been a long time main
state in Coral Springs uh and then
Tavolino changed ownership hands Bruno
stayed there for a while but then he
broke off on his own and opened this new
called levello last December hey calm
down um what’s going on is the mailman
there what’s What’s happen yeah only
just rolled by out back that they could
see oh okay draw the blinds I would
figure by this point um
Skippy his vision must be crystal clear
I guess no he has no idea what he’s
barking at
talk Stevie wonders se’s better than
this guy and there was a theory out
there that he could
drive you mean uh well Skippy can drive
I’ve seen pictures of skiy you know he’s
good behind a wheel but yeah I’ve seen
that uh but anyway levella Bruno Chef
Bruno he’s originally from Brazil has
mainly an Italian Focus menu but kind of
dishes from everywhere but every bite we
had again he sent out a couple of
beautiful app iers and then me and Dix
well what a
surprise well I sent out the bat signal
yesterday you’d be proud of me I said he
be coming in I I’m bringing my critics
pen yes okay never mind all that yeah he
had uh I tell you what he did he did
like kind of you know you sent me a
picture of Cafe Max you were there were
you there over the weekend yeah I went
there last Saturday evening it was
fantastic Abol you they have that caviar
pie right caviar piie is Big you know
Mustang loves it uh um I mean everything
there is great they’re going strong yeah
they’ve been there 35 they do a great
job I I I know you had your problems
with Oliver but I think you the hatchet
there kind of like the santis and Trump
uh but not quite at that level of
acrimony and no I mean I’ve been going
there for for the longest time and every
time I go I just say wow this is a great
restaurant that’s been again one of
those iconic Broward Mainstays 35 plus
years uh lllo though he’s packing it in
it was a Tuesday night and they’re
closed on Mondays but the place was
packed so far let’s again it’s not cheap
there it’s on the higher price upscale
side uh but every bite again one of
these guys who’s just obsessed with
quality he sent out a appetizer that had
his fresh Bara but with a kind of a
cured Italian meat it wasn’t the
standard pruto which sometimes is a
little stringy and chewy this was
something it was an 800 day aged cured
meat I don’t know if was called curo or
something like that but it was it had a
little bit of sweetness from the aging
and it also just like literally melted
in your mouth the thing was so good and
he served it not just with the fresh
housemade barata but he did it with
these little droplets of really the
premium aged balsamic but he mixed it
with a gelatin so it stayed in like
Pearl droplet form along with some
strawberries and again I don’t know
what’s going on with me but I’ve totally
changed my tune when when it comes to
fruit with Savory cuz this strawberry
and the balsamic with the cured meat and
the um uh barata it was just a perfect
bite it just like had all the components
of great flavors and then you know for
the main course me and dixin split this
pounded out 16 oun ve Chop on the bone
with a vodka sauce parmesan and served
on the side with a fresh housemade
padelli uh kacho Pepe with just the
pepper and the cheese
and again it was a pricey main course
which we paid for I think was either $75
or $80 but again it’s like family style
like the two of us split that and had
plenty of leftovers we took a bunch of
leftovers home too so all things
considered um because the portions are
so large uh it is all in all a
reasonable proposition and the food was
great and hats off to Chef Bruno I’ll be
writing it up for the letse group this
weekend and uh yes so place that’s less
than 6 months old you’ve gone to a place
that’s 35 years old that’s the beauty of
Broward County you’ve got all kinds of
things here so uh that’s it I just love
it and uh you know what let’s take our
final break but first we got to talk
about another place that’s a Mainstay
for 60 plus years Delaware Chicken and
Seafood Farm I was in there today is the
last day of stone crab season I don’t
know if you want to play Taps for that
Luby but uh there will be no more traps
pulled up from the local Waters until
October
15 well you don’t have to say Taps for
the stone crabs cuz now they get to live
for a while but actually they pull off
the one claw and they still can survive
so that’s the beauty of the stone crap
they grow it back I mean it’s a
phenomenal thing they can regenerate
some of them otherwise they just be
walking in circles for the rest of their
lives and that would be cruel and
unusual my friend uh but uh the stone
crabs uh get them while you can again
they’re pulling up the traps today
they’ll still have them in at Delaware
Seafood uh uh for today and tomorrow uh
but they’re going to be disappearing so
get them now 4191 North State Road 7 of
course they’ve got all kinds of other
seafood and fish when the stone crabs
are gone crabs and shrimp from the Key
West fish from the local Waters like
grouper and Snapper and then of course
they got things like oh beautiful salmon
swordfish and the Branzino that they’re
bringing in from the Mediterranean also
