  1. Maybe the Score attached to many wines encourages the snobbery, who knows? Agree on moving out of the way after you get your sample

  2. Very interesting video – especially about the flowers and scents like perfume, etc. And really like your dog in these videos.

  3. I loved this video. A nice, gentle touch in laying down some guidelines without feeling too exclusive or judgemental. Helpful tips before I head to my first vineyard tastings in France.

  4. fantastic video as always! out of these, using the perfume is the one that affected me the most😢

  5. Mistake #4 fragrances is my biggest annoyance at tastings. It's disrespectful, it is the first thing I say when I bring people along who don't taste as often, make sure you don't wear (heavy) perfume. The other ones I can manage.

  6. Amen. Don’t be a pompous a##. Wine brings this out in, particularly in experienced amateurs. Enjoy the wines you enjoy but let others appreciate their choices.

  7. I thought your video was already great, but it got even better when a vizsla made its way in it : ) I just couldn't help but laugh out loud at 4:34 ; made me think so much of my own vizsla girl's absolutely horrendous farts 😆

  8. I tried to find unscented shampoo ,flavorless toothpaste for your fourth point. Only had success with finding unscented deodorant. I don’t know if you them in Latvia…I don’t go to Starbucks anymore and prefer local coffee shops. I get people like consistency but go support small shops that provide quality or quantity.

  9. Nice topic! I regularly attend some informal wine tastings, and some professionals there use perfume. I still think it's not okay as the rest may be taking it seriously. Anyway, I've got the spittoon from 2:48! I thought it was ugly when I bought it, but lately I'm feeling better about it. Apparently they designed it to minimise splashing and smell from coming out.

  10. Really good video. Loved the down to earth justification for each of the “don’ts.” Common sense, consideration, and good manners apply to wine tastings just as they should to any public activity. Well done.

  11. Thank you for the video, useful suggestions.
There's only two things that I don't like about tastings, trying (not fully enjoying) great big wines that are not being decanted and…the long lines 😊

  12. Great reminders. Can we send this over to all the wineries for their staff too? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at a venue and the servers/ pourers have layers of strong perfume or, what may be worse, strong personal scents. And make sure to rinse your glass wear in something other than chlorine 🤢.

  13. All excellent points Agnes and exactly why I've never attended a wine tasting. My wine journey is 40 years long, entirely self educated and personal. In my early days there were no wine tastings in my neighbourhood and today I'm so confident in my own wine perceptions I don't want to be a snob in front of other less experienced drinkers. Enjoying wine shouldn't be snobbish of course.

I used to attend whisky tastings but that was largely to enjoy the comradery of other drinkers. Whisky tastings are far more relaxed (I think) than wine tastings. Getting mildly tipsy is part of the enjoyment and intended because you are far more likely to buy a bottle later on.

  14. At the Rudd estate in Napa they used wool they sheered on the property for a pallet cleanse I thought that was great

  15. I've attended a few tastings where people are socializing with each other (not between attendee and the person pouring the wine) and treating the tasting like they are at a bar happy hour, all while others are waiting in line, so those waiting have to eventually nudge their way in to make space to put a glass down or reach out asking for a sample pour. As someone who has tasted and done pouring at shows (not for wine), please and especially thank you at the end of the tasting to the presenter or rep go a long way, sometimes that doesn't happen.

  16. The point about hijacking spittoons and that of being loud when swishing the wine in the mouth are those who annoy me the most 😅 I really can't stand these type of people
