The A330-900 retains the fuselage length of the A330-300 and the similarly sized four-engined A340-300. Cabin optimisation allows ten additional seats on the A330-900 (310 passengers) with 18-inch-wide economy seats. The -900 should travel 6,550 nmi (12,130 km; 7,540 mi) with 287 passengers (440 max). Delta expects a 20 percent reduction in operating cost per seat over the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft it replaces. Further reconfiguration of cabin facilities enables the –900 to seat up to 460 passengers in an all-economy layout. This exceeds the existing 440-seat maximum exit limit allowed by the type certificate, and requires a modification of the Type-A exit doors to meet emergency exit requirements. Flew ITA economy from JFK to FCO. Not a great experience. Flight attendants were acting as if they wanted to be anywhere other than working the flight.
Dan, if your looking for the best European airline, within Europe short-haul, the clear winner is Aegean Airlines. New and modern cabin, inflight hot meal is included in every fare what else is there to look for 😊

I travelled ITA business class Europe internal, on one of the older Alitalia planes, just after the nationalisation. It had a proper (though ancient and uncomfortable) business class seat, rather than the European blocked middle. The food was a disgrace – barely edible slop, with pasta cooked beyond the point of recognition, a sauce that tasted actively awful, and filling that was grainy and pointless. I am surprised the airline's management hasn't been slaughtered by their nonne.
Lately I've come to realise that a shitty crew can very much ruin your flight no matter how good the hard and soft products are, and vice versa!!

disappointing to see the poor meal
I liked my ITA flight from October. Both of them, actually. Because of my visual disability, I got priority boarding both ways with very little issue, and the ravioli dish I got in premium economy was great. The chicken dish I got on the leg to Italy was a bit dry though. I guess they don't send their best to a flight to India.
