Welcome back, everybody. So it is Women’s History Month. We’re celebrating because we are showcasing women owned businesses. We have quite a few great ones here in town and quite a few here in our back lot. It’s impressive to see your set up. I love this.

Uh So let’s start with you. Tell me your name and who you’re with. My name is Bridget Myers and I run the farmers market in the Little Italy who has not been to the farmers market in Little Italy. I’ve definitely gone multiple times. It’s a great place to go.

Uh and very successful. Tell us about the market for our viewers at home. Well, it’s a family run business and my mom started the market 15 years ago, almost 16 years ago. There was no grocery store in little, there still isn’t. And so she wanted to bring fresh produce and small

Businesses selling food and other items to the neighborhood. So everyone, you know in San Diego can come down and shop. Um Yeah, we’ve just been running the market since then and it’s just a really big successful market, of course, but I think the greatest thing is that we get to support these local

Farmers and small businesses and there’s about 200 farmers and vendors between the staff and Wednesday market and about half of them are women run. That’s awesome. And, and see you brought quite a few uh beautiful items out here if you want to highlight a couple.

For sure. Yeah, so we have some really great bakers. Um E MP Bolinger makes really great tarts. They use locally grown raspberries and gooseberries and other things in their tarts. I’m excited to eat brings gluten free and vegan products, loaves and cookies. Eliza’s honey is a really great Eliza is a beekeeper that’s

Local here and she also makes honey and other products there. Um Not your not as pasta sauce um is a really great female owned business in Italy to have that. How amazing to see from 15 years ago, how much it’s grown and

Usa today giving you a shout out right. Your top 10 of all farmers markets. We’ve been nominated as the top 10. So you can vote now through April 15th and vote for the little Italy farmers market as the best market in the country. Although I really think that the best market

Is the one that you support regularly too, give those businesses a boost. I love that. Uh Speaking of our local businesses supporting local, supporting women, look at this gorgeous set up. Good morning. What’s your name? Audrey Hermes with Frost Me Cafe and bakery. This is gorgeous. Audrey. Tell us about your bakery.

Yeah. Um So we’ve been in Little Italy for, we’re going on six years now. Um but I started frost me many years ago, about 15 years ago. Very, very small and um kind of built it into what you see today. So we have everything from breakfast and lunch, beer and wine,

Uh full service bakery. We do a lot of wedding cakes and catering as well. I was gonna say you have the croissants and all of that looks amazing. And then this gorgeous cake right here so people can order for special occasions. We do everything from birthdays and anniversaries um to full scale weddings.

I love it. I know it’s Women’s History Month. We want to support women businesses. Uh Tell us what that means to you to see so many other women owned businesses here in town. Yeah, it’s, it’s actually amazing. Um and really supportive throughout the community and we also have a ton of really

Killer bakers that are women. Um So yeah, it’s just um a great way to support each other and um see each other grow and flourish and I love it. All right, beautiful. Thank you very much. Now I’m gonna walk over here a different style of business. Hello? Tell me your name.

I don’t have any pastry. That’s sorry. We got it covered. It’s fine. But tell us about your business. First of all, what’s your name? My name is Lizzie and I own tailored hair. It’s a barbershop in East Village barber shop. Uh We’re a whole bunch of lady barbers. There’s, there’s 10 of us.

We’ve been around for 11 years now and like Audrey, we started uh small, it was like a one chair spot. We actually used to like have a tiny little like oven that would make cookies and I’m not gonna take them. So at the time, my clients are coming and be like, God,

Smells like burnt cookies in here. I’m so glad there’s bakers out here. There’s plenty of other ones that can bring the cookies to you if you like. But a barbershop, why was that something you wanted to do? So, I was an educator for Paul Mitchell, the school in San Diego.

Um, and I just loved teaching the, the grooming barbering side. And so it, it’s kind of inspired for a love of doing that and then, um, and then rolled into to, to Tailored and we, we built out our space like the new space three years ago during COVID, which was interesting. Um,

But it’s cool. It’s, it’s the power of women coming together and I love it from the one chair with the one oven to now. How many chairs do you have now? 1212. That’s awesome. So check out Tailored Hair is what it’s called, correct? All right.

Very good. Ok, let’s talk to you. Tell me your name Rachel. Hi, Rachel Black Market Bakery. Where are you located? Uh, we’re in East Village actually, we’re, um, in the same building as Liz. You can bring the streets over. I love this and we also have a spot on 30th and Adams.

Um, in North Park. Ok. Very nice. Uh, tell us what you offer. I mean, these look incredible too. So we, we do all sorts of, um, breakfast, pastries, cakes, tarts, cookies, um, breads like fresh breads and then we do breakfast sandwiches and sandwiches on our breads. Um, just the lattes. We

Made the dark horse coffee which is ok. Oh, dark horse coffee. Yes, of course. I have a five year old who loves all things. Rainbow sparkly. Tell me what this is. Yeah, it’s funny. I am not a rainbow sparkly person. So um my pastry will take it off.

We’re doing, we’re doing sprinkles and I was like, oh, I don’t wanna do sprinkles. Ok. I’m not gonna fight. We love the sprinkles. We love our pastry. So she, she decorated these cakes for us. Um, so we do all these little um, we don’t do cupcakes. Does we do little individual cakes.

So we just this one just a rainbows. Oh my goodness. She would love something like that. So thank you. Tell your street that she knows the interest sprinkles. Of course they are. Um, tell me how to celebrate Women’s History Month. What’s a good idea for our viewers at home? To keep in mind.

Um, I think just be aware of who you’re buying from. I mean, your dollar is your vote, your dollar is your support. And as all women own businesses, we totally appreciate, you know, all the support that, that our, um, that our local communities give us. It’s very special. It’s great to hear.

Right. Right. And it’s great to see the success of all of you ladies. Uh Thank you for being with us. I know this was such a elaborate set up here at our back lot and you did a great job. That’s so cool.

Uh The ladies have a nice touch I will say on making beautiful displays. Uh So thank you all and of course everyone uh check out local women owned businesses here in town, Little Italy, the East Village and great to have all of you here.

Uh We will be right back after this quick break with a check of your headlines and your forecast.
