Escape to Tuscany-your weekend itinerary|Travel Guide.

Today is a short trip, lasting just one weekend in the southern part of Tuscany, in which we combined the pleasure of discovering ancient villages with the relaxation of one of the most famous spas in Italy.

The castle has medieval origins and was originally built in the 12th century. Over the centuries, it underwent various modifications and renovations. It was once part of the defensive system of the Papal States.
The architecture of the castle reflects its medieval roots, with stone walls, towers, and a defensive structure. Visitors can explore the various rooms, courtyards, and architectural elements that showcase the historical evolution of the building.
Castello di Vulci is situated in a strategic position, overlooking the surrounding landscape. The castle offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, providing a glimpse into the historical context of its defensive role.
Within the castle complex, there is a museum that displays artifacts from the archaeological excavations in the Vulci area. The museum showcases items from different historical periods, including Etruscan, Roman, and medieval artifacts.

They then cross the entire park and flow along a natural stream for almost two kilometres, where a difference in height creates waterfalls that lap an ancient mill, and in turn form a series of natural pools carved into the rock on multiple levels.

The Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort is a top-level facility where you can breathe a magical atmosphere. Immersed in the five outdoor thermal pools with different temperatures but all with thermal water (from which a suggestive and relaxing steam rises) you can enjoy the surrounding panorama of the Maremma nature. The offer is completed by cold and hot water vascular paths, relaxation area, wellness centre, restaurants, bars and a magnificent golf course.
The resort also offers the possibility of accommodation: depending on the type of room and treatment and the season, the price for an overnight stay with access to the SPA varies from 500 to 1000 Euros.
For access to the spa without accommodation, prices start from 25 Euros per person per day.
In addition to the spa, it is possible to benefit from these waters at the Fall of the Mulino. They are free and therefore always open even at night,24 hours a day all year round. Bathing at the Saturnia waterfalls at night under the stars or illuminated by the moon is an experience that we recommend you try! In this case a torch will be useful, especially when there is no moon. Also remember that it is a natural place in the open countryside so you will not find bathrooms or changing rooms. However, there is free parking.
From a scientific point of view, the water of Saturnia is: “sulphurous-carbonic, sulphate-bicarbonate-alkaline earthy homeothermal mineral water” and includes among its peculiarities the presence of two dissolved gases such as hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide. The composition of this water contains the secret of its healthy properties, effective for the skin, for the cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal systems, it also has antioxidant and purifying properties.
In these waters with numerous properties we also found a notable quantity of small red worms.
We informed ourselves about these unexpected presences in the water and were assured that they are harmless worms and of no risk to humans. Nonetheless, we assure you that discovering them swimming in the water with us was not a particularly pleasant surprise.
