Hello bour and welcome to your new Bonner private wines video after looking into the prospective wine trends for 2024 last week for the global wine industry it was a great video I recommend you watch it if you haven’t today I want to start with you looking into Argentine wine more specifically

You not without knowing that our next wine collection from the club will be full of delicious wines from Argentina as is tradition for us at the beginning of every new vintage this will be our 20th wine collection from the boner private wine club by the way 5 years

Indeed quite a milestone so to celebrate over the coming few weeks we’re going to be discussing some of the extraordinary wonders the Argentine wine industry has to offer and to get us starting here I want to give you a quick overview of the exciting wine scene that takes place

Place in Argentina here are the main key facts that you need to know about Argentine wine from history grapes we’ll talk about Maric obviously how it compares to other wine countries in South America and much more let’s Go The roots of Argentina’s wine production Trace back to the Spanish colonial era of course in the 16th century early Spanish settlers brought wine cuttings from Europe mainly to fulfill their religious wine needs at the time the first Vines were planted in Argentina in 1556 by father sedron pad sedron who

Brought over cuttings from the Chilean Central Valley to sanan and mendosa so they brought them through Chile initially or Chile over the first two centuries of great growing in Argentina Growers naturally gravitated to the kuo region due to the high altitude and favorable semi irid climate conditions with plenty of water access there in that particular area of the Andes Mountains access to water for irrigation the same kuyo

Region that now encompasses also mendosa and San Juan is still the Beating Heart of the wine industry in Argentina today there were already 120 recorded Vineyards in mendosa Alone by 1739 leap up a few centuries in 2005 Argentina’s total plantings produced 2.5 billion kilog of wine grapes and in 2022

The country produced about 1.2 billion lers of wine or say around the equivalent of 1.6 billion bottles that’s quite a lot of Wine Argentina is home to a variety of grapes malbeck was brought from France and it makes most of the Argentina’s best known wine scene as we know the Italians also brought vines that they called bonarda one of the other relatively famous red grapes in Argentina tones is the famous white

Argentine grape the other significant plantings include cabanon of course shardon and more recent additions like caban Fran and Tempo so large variety diversity of grapes from 1998 until the present the wine industry in Argentina has experienced the greatest growth in its history it’s become really popular with 106% increase in domestic Argentine

Consumption and an 800% rise in the volume of Argentine wine exports Argentine wine started being exported on mass during the 1990s and are still growing in popularity making it now the largest wine exporter in South America we’ll discuss further how the country faes compar to others on

The continent in a moment so stay tuned for That the most important wine of the country are located in the provinces of mendosa sanan as we said but also laa other wine producing regions include our dear salta Province to the north we love souring wines from there the extreme altitude Vineyards of cfat and Kaki

Valley that we often talk about here but there are other areas as well like catamara Rio negro Patagonia to the extreme South and more recently southern brenos ciris area also uh is starting to Output some Wine The mendosa Province however produces more than 60% of Argentine wine and it’s the source of an even higher percentage of all total exports I think around 75% of all exports are from mendosa alone so generally speaking unless you’re a club member of ours if you know and drink Argentine wine people

Think associated with Marik and mendosa in particular because most of the exports are from There Argentina is the sixth largest wine producing country in the world after the big Europeans France Italy and SP Spain obviously and behind Australia and the United States Argentina produces wine in 14 of its 23 provinces so there Vineyards not totally everywhere in Argentina it’s a massive country but

Almost every province has Vineyards and it makes for about half a million Acres of total surface area in the country so virtually Vineyards almost everywhere in 2022 per capita consumption of wine in Argentina amounted to 18 L per person so that’s a bottle every second week per a total

Inhabitant it’s not bad argentinians drink their fair share of Veno therefore with the traditional assado or the GED meats that they love much like in Europe a good lunch or dinner is shared with a bottle of wine on the table in Argentina it’s deep it’s profoundly rooted in the culture

So argentinians support their own wine industry drinking quite a lot of wine they drink about 80% of the wine that they produce which leaves about 20% of Argentina’s overall wine output made for export markets in 2022 these Venus exports represented an income for the country of about $800

Million so that’s not far off half a billion dollars brought in to the country by wine bottles alone the most important markets in 2021 were the United States by far the biggest imported followed by the United Kingdom and Brazil yes surprisingly Brazilians love their Argentine wine too malbeck is

The biggest exporter with a funny stat about 300,000 bottles of malbeck are exported every day or about 12 th000 bottles every Hour you may be wondering about this Argentine MarBeck is grown mostly in mendosa Argentina as we’ve said where conditions are sunnier and drier than in the center of France the wines tend to be therefore more plummy richer riper more food fored as well with a velvety soft texture they have more black fruit

Flavors as well softer acidity and a chocolate smooth finish quite meaty as well on the other hand French Marik is primarily grown in K region of France in the central mountains of France where the Limestone soils contribute to the vines High Talon and color French malbeck tends to have more structure

Finer tenance and more idity expect overall a slightly lighter Style with a bit lower alcohol as well and fresher red fruit and floral herbal Aromas with some tobacco a bit of coffee and Meaty notes as it ages so French malbeck is just the greier uh wine on the pallette

In summary while they are the same grape the different growing conditions and the wine making traditions in Argentina and France result in actually two very distinct styles of MarBeck Chile is Argentina’s closest competitor in terms of wine production in Latin America both countries have a similar focus on quality and Export but they produce different styles of wine due to their unique climates and ter from 2017 to 2020 Argentina was the largest wine producer in l in America

But recently in 2021 and 2022 a bit of a new trend Chile uh overtook Argentina as the largest wine production in the continent other South American countries like Brazil ug Uruguay or Peru also produce wine you don’t hear about them that much they don’t export that much but they

Industries are much smaller and less internationally recognized because they don’t export as much as Argentina so you don’t hear about them but they’re there in summary Argentina’s wine industry is a major player in South America and globally known especially for its Marbeck wines wine has a very significant impact on

The country’s economy but also its culture wine is Argentina Argentina is wine they go together that was it for me today the top facts that you absolutely needed to know about Argentine wine in short if you want to dig a little further here are some more videos going

A little bit deeper and stay tuned for more content about Argentina venos and your upcoming Argentina wine collection from the club as well I will see you soon in the wonderful world of wine Cheers

  1. I have my eye on a bottle of BODEGA CATENA ZAPATA 2020. It’s a little pricey, though I want to buy a quality Malbec this year for the collection.
