Cooking Authentic Italian Food in Florence and Verona Day Trip

Learning to cook the local cuisine in the cities and countries we visit is one of our favorite things to do. Something about it is so enriching to learn the process, and it doesn’t hurt that we get to eat afterwards.

We’re also visiting our favorite day trip in our series, VERONA, city of love. Less than 2 hours away from Florence by train, this is a wonderful day trip to add to your adventure.

Cooking Authentic Italian Food in Florence and Verona Day Trip Transcript:

Hey y’all welcome back to our channel. We’re Nick and Anna, digital nomads on a mission to see it all and experience life to its fullest. We’ve done a few day trips to other cities while staying in Italy, and we’re really excited to share this one with you.

Before we get started, is there a place you think we should go to in italy that we missed? Let us know in the comments your favorite city in italy we should see.

This week we’ll be cooking an authentic italian meal in Florence with our friend Ileana and showing you around the wonderfully underrated city of Verona.

In our previous episode on Florence, we were shopping around the Sant ambroggio market for ingredients for our meal. After collecting everything for our meal, we headed back to Ileana’s flat to start prep work.

Today we’re going to be making asparagus & ricotta filled ravioli with a cherry tomatoes sauce, along with tagliatelle with a Creamy lemony ricotta with mint and peas. YUM.

But before we do too much work, there’s always time for some snacks and a few aperol spritzes.

At this point we’ve cooked a few times with Ileana, who is an absolute MASTER in the art of pasta making. She teaches classes in Florence, and each time we’re back we try to hang out with her, the food is that good. She’s also a pretty cool person to just hang around with.

From here, we put the pasta in the water and waited a few minutes for it to cook. Because it’s fresh pasta, it only takes 2-3 minutes to cook.

And here’s the spread of our final results! Doesn’t it look delicious?

Finishing up our day trip series with one of our favorites, the italian city of love, Verona. Again we were able to take the train from Florence, because of how centrally located it was. The whole trip there took maybe 2 hours.

The city is known for many things, but once inside, you’re greeted with the great roman Arena, that dates back over 2000 years. This is certainly different from the collesuem in Rome, but it’s one of Verona’s most iconic landmarks and they still have concerts and operas here.

Verona is also known for its diverse range of architecture. We were able to see building styles from the 15th-21st century.

One of the most famous things this city is known for is being associated with Shakespear’s Romeo and Juliet. We were able to see Romeo’s house in addition to Juliet’s house, which is not far away.

At juliets house, we purchased a lock to add to their wall of love, which was already bursting at the seams with locks from other people. You can also write love letters to Juliet and mail them here as well.

Legend has it, if you touch the bronze breast of Juliet you’ll have good luck in your love life. Of course we had to.

If you’re planning a trip to italy, don’t skip Verona. We only spent a day here but we probably could have done 2-3 to really see and explore everything this city has to offer. By the time we were done with the day, our feet were KILLING us from all the walking we crammed into the day.

If you haven’t checked out our other italy day trip series, we’ll put the links to them in the description, along with the tours we did so you don’t have to do the research for your visit.

As always, we’d love it if you subscribed to our channel so we can share more travel adventures and inspire you to do your own!
