Miami is known for many things: its tropical beaches, its lavish celebrity lifestyle, and its Art Deco architecture. But it’s also the epicenter of Latin American culture, and the metro area is home to 1.2 million Cuban-Americans. In this tour with Get Your Guide, I’m sharing the best Cuban food Miami has to offer, while also sharing some stories of the immigrants who brought their cuisine to America in the first place.

VERSAILLES: This world-famous restaurant is the beating heart of the Cuban-American community in Miami. It’s also a hotspot among tourists, earning it the nickname, “The World’s Most Famous Cuban Restaurant.” Its “Little Window,” or La Ventanita, is a popular gathering place where locals debate everything from sports to politics while enjoying Cuban coffees, croquetas, pastelitos, and empanadas.

SANGUICH DE MIAMI: Another local staple, Sanguich de Miami is known for its authentic Cuban sandwiches, which contain seasoned pork, sweet ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, on toasted Cuban bread. The sandwich itself has an interesting and complicated history, with some believing it originated in Miami, while others say it was birthed in Tampa. Many historians, however, say it actually comes from Cuba! Sanguich’s food is so tasty, it was added to the prestigious Michelin Guide in 2022!

EL REY DE LAS FRITAS: Another integral part of Miami’s Cuban community, El Rey de las Fritas has been serving Cuban dishes since they opened in 1976. Their tasty, authentic flavors have made them a favorite in the city and a popular spot for tourists. It’s famous for their Frita Cubana, a Cuban-style burger made with a ground veal patty topped with sauteed onions and fried shoestring potatoes on a fluffy Cuban roll.

Come to Miami and experience these Cuban favorites for yourself!

  1. Hopefully I can visit one or more of these places in Miami in the future. I’m a foreign medical student in Cuba and I love their pasteles de guayaba y queso (not both flavors together) 🤤 it’s embarrassing to eat in public tho with all the flakes flying all over 😂 I’ve never seen the frita Cubana before.
