On Day 27 in Lisbon, Portugal, I made up my mind to eat as much Portuguese food and at some of the best local restaurants in Lisbon. It turned out to be a fantastic day in Lisbon with some seriously good Portuguese food!

00:36 Cafe Martinho Da Arcada at Praça do Comércio – The first place we stopped in the morning is a legendary cafe in Lisbon that is the oldest cafe in Lisbon called Cafe Martinho Da Arcada. The main reason I wanted to go there was to try their pastéis de bacalhau, classic Portuguese food codfish fritters. The coffee and ambience and of the cafe was also nice. Total price – 9.30 EUR

Restaurante Zé da Mouraria (I think it was closed for holidays) – I really wanted to eat at this restaurant during my visit to Lisbon, but unfortunately they were closed for holidays, so if you go to Lisbon and are looking for local Portuguese food, check this place out.

5:32 Restaurante Cantinho do Aziz – For our next meal, although not Portuguese food, but more Mozambican food, we headed over to Restaurante Cantinho do Aziz. The food was remarkable, one of the best meals I had in Lisbon. I first began with some beef samosas which were insanely good, and then had spicy bakra piri piri, spicy lamb ribs. Total price – 35.00 EUR

11:14 Restaurante A Merendinha do Arco – Finally, to try some authentic Portuguese food in Lisbon, we headed over to a restaurant called Restaurante A Merendinha do Arco. This small family run restaurant serves delicious Portuguese food and many of the classics. I ordered bacalhau com grão, codfish with garbanzo beans and carne de porco à alentejana, pork with clams. Along with the delicious local food, what I loved was the ambiance and feel of the restaurant. Total price – 20.15 EUR

22:10 Oceanário de Lisboa (Entrance price – 17 EUR per person) – By this point on this Portuguese food tour of Lisbon, I was feeling pretty full, so we headed over to Oceanário de Lisboa and walked around one of Europe’s biggest aquariums.

24:22 Cafe on Avenida da Liberdade (Coffee – 1.40 EUR) – One of the things I love about Lisbon is the social cafe culture and atmosphere. In the afternoon I was starting to feel pretty sleepy, so before dinner, I had a cup of coffee at an outdoor cafe along Avenida.

25:12 Solar dos Presuntos – For the last Portuguese meal in on this food tour of restaurants in Lisbon, I decided to eat at a restaurants called Solar dos Presuntos. I didn’t know it was going to be such a fancy high end restaurant, but it was our last night in Lisbon, so we decided to go for it. I started with the pata negra, a plate of incredibly good ham. Then I ordered the polvo à lagareiro, some of the most tender octopus I’ve ever had in my life. Finally we also ordered dourada grelhada – gilt-head sea bream fish. The food was expensive, but delicious. Total price – 60.85 EUR.

This was a fantastic day of Portuguese food in Lisbon, and many of the places we ate today were the best restaurants I tried in Lisbon.

  1. The samosa won me over. The first restaurant looked like place I would choose to eat compared to the the second and last restaurant. The second one had too much diners and not enough space while the other one had too many vacant tables probably because the place was too big.

  2. One thing I noticed is that your wife/partner never gets to eat!.. as you always get to eat all dishes, then another very disturbing thing is that she seems to always walk slightly behind you. I know that in some cultures it’s done as a sign of respect but it does not make it right for those watching.

  3. Mark such a pity I didn’t knew you were coming to my city because I should had told you about a few great tradicional restaurants for you to try.

  4. Great video – when you drank the wine you said ‘wow’ – that is the usual reaction to food and wine in that part of the world – you said you was a little surprised at the coffee being so good I think – you know now and imagine that quality times a thousand at least in Spain and you can see how much quality of food and drink is around you.

You have an outstanding job and life travelling – I commend you and also the guy next to you when you was eating the salt cod was of course trying to help but really it depends I guess but for some people who t might seem a little excessive he is telling you how to eat but you handled it well – that particular dish was not to my understanding of it I must say but it really should be simple – fresh and on personal choice (for me it is necessary) you have extremely good vinegar and extremely good oil and also you have them in the salad and so I would say that dish looked to much like a restaurant dish but homemade version as the fishermen actually cook and eat it is ineffable.

Ty for your work making videos I like them always because they are interesting to me and also sometimes I think your voice is so similar to Police Academy film character Nick Lysaud who is Captain Lysaud’s nephew in the movie and he actually goes to wrestle this other cadet officer who is also tremendous and so I suppose you heard that many times but your voice just evokes images of wrestling 🤼‍♀️ n Police Academy and jet ski pursuits.

  5. Indian has left the chat 🤣: because in india beef is ban
And we can't eat beef samosa foreigner are eating it 😭

  6. Samosa in Portuguese is chamuça. There would be no modern samosa without the portuguese influence that took some of the spices that are used in making it, specially the peppers, from south america to india, through Goa, and other places.

  7. You always say good things about the dish say something bad if u dnt taste good….nothing compared to Vietnam and Thailand food…all outh East Asian nation

  8. Lisbon is probably best known for its colonialist history, ornate architecture and tradition of Fado music. But some of its best features are in the everyday – spectacular hilltop vistas in Alfama or at St. George's Castle, pleasant year-round weather and friendly locals.

  9. Interesting, this reminds me of official related dish that my grandma from Italy makes she used that word bacalau or bacalao in Puerto Rican spanish. Maybe the word originated from Portugal

  10. I have seen quite a lot of Mark Wien's videos. His videos are alright but his expressions when he puts the food into his mouth are so fake!!! In fact it's a turn off when he overreact to the taste of food. After a while I don't trust his videos anymore. Fake!!

  11. I love the way mark close his eyes leans forward and smiles once he tastes the food . Magic. LOL

  12. I can see Mark is not that happy with traditional Portuguese food like me it's too plain for a Asian 😆

  13. Thanks Mr. Wiens for your sharing. I don't know how to manage chopsticks, my bad; but, I believe that for a food related channel must manage properly western table utensils. Fork always on the left hand prick the meat or vegetable, cut with knife and take the pricked piece to the mouth. A quick review will improve the content.

  14. man i just hate tuktuks, why do we need to make something, from another country into a touristic transport, it feels so out of place

  15. I'm under the impression that he was not actually that delighted with the Bacalhau com Grão and the Carne de Porco à Alentejana, but he delivers that same "oh wow… hummmmmmmmmmmm", to whatever he eats. I think he would do the same thing if he ate a rock. Never saw him react anyother way, tbh.
And yes, we do have one of the best food in the world.
