Sweet & Sour Meatballs: Testing out the Sol Cuisine Zesty Italian Plant-based Meatballs!

Hello friends!

I’m a huge fan of the Gardein Meatless Meatballs but recently I saw the Sol Cuisine Zesty Italian Plant-based meatballs in the store and I had try them out! 😀

I’ve been making sweet & sour meatballs since I was a starving student and it’s such a simple recipe. Because I’ve been making is for so long, I normally don’t measure my ingredients. However BOSH just put out a video for sweet & sour tofu that uses all the same ingredients so I’m going to use their measurements to keep things simple for you all 🤓. Here’s the link to the Bosh video:

When I was a starving student I used white vinegar and white sugar vs the rice vinegar and brown sugar.

Let me know if you would like me to do a head to head review of the plant-based meatballs that are on the market (Gardein, Sol, Yves, Lightlife, Ikea, etc). I’ll get Keaton to help me taste test them!

Also, let me know if there are any other foods/products that you’d like me to review. That’s always fun 😀.

As always, please like & subscribe.

I love you all!
Adelina ❤️

SWEET & SOUR MEATBALLS
INGREDIENTS:
* 1 package of frozen vegan meatballs (we’re using the Sol Cuisine brand today but I love the Gardein brand as well)
* 1 small onion, red or yellow, chopped
* 1 red or yellow pepper, seeded and chopped
* 1 green pepper, seeded and chopped
* 2 cloves of garlic, minced or chopped
* 1 can of pineapple tidbits in juice, drain and save the juice
* 1/2 cup brown sugar (or white if that’s what you’ve got handy)
* 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar (or white vinegar if that’s what you have in the cupboard)
* 1/3 cup of tomato ketchup
* Olive oil
* Salt & pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:
1. Cook your meatballs according to the package instructions. I cooked mine in my air fryer.
2. Heat oil in a frying pan and sautĂŠ the onions, peppers & garlic until slightly softened.
3. Make the sauce by mixing in a bowl: brown sugar, vinegar, ketchup and juice from the can of pineapple bits.
4. Pour the sauce into the veggie mixture and simmer until slightly thickened.
5. Add the cooked meatballs and 1/2 to 1 cup of the pineapple tidbits based on preference.
6. Simmer until the sauce has thickened.
7. Serve over rice.
