How to Make Traditional Italian Tiramisu (Recipe)

In this video we show you how to make a traditional Italian tiramisu. The coffee-mascarpone based dessert originated in the region of Treviso and is one of our favourites. This traditional Italian tiramisu recipe was Inspired by our trip to Sorrento.

INGREDIENTS
Mascarpone (500g)
Eggs (4)
Sugar (100g)
Coffee (300g)
Sugar (1 tsp)
Sponge fingers (300g)
Cocoa Powder (for dusting)

METHOD

The process starts by combining the egg yolks and 50 grams of sugar in a mixing bowl. Whisk on a medium speed to combine then add the mascarpone and continue whisking.

In a separate bowl combine 4 egg whites and 50g of sugar. Whisk it on a high speed until you achieve stiff peaks. Then start adding the egg whites to the mascarpone. Fold them both together.

In a separate bowl, add 300ml of freshly brewed coffee. If you want you can add marsala wine to the coffee. Add 1 tsp of sugar and mix well. Then assemble the tiramisu; start with the layer of mascarpone, then soak 300g of sponge fingers one at a time in the coffee and form the next layer of the tiramisu.

Do another layer of the mascarpone, then do a final layer of the sponge fingers and then the final layer of the mascarpone. Finally dust cocoa powder over the top of the tiramisu. When the tiramisu is finished place it in the fridge to set overnight. Cut into portions, ensuring to cut all the way through then serve.
