Afghan food is a meat lover’s paradise — from a legendary slow-simmered breakfast in Kabul Old City to a riverside lamb feast in Paghman Valley, just 45 minutes from the city at the base of the Hindu Kush mountains!

Afghanistan’s meat obsession is real, and today my friend Bilal Kamal and I are experiencing it from morning to night. We start in Kabul Old City with kalla pacha at Faizi Kalla wa Pacha Restaurant — slow-simmered sheep’s head and trotters that just might be one of the world’s greatest breakfasts. Next, hot out of the tandoor oven, we eat samsa — flaky Afghan baked meat pies — at Samarqand Sambosa Tandoori. Then we drive to the base of the Hindu Kush mountains to Paghman Valley, where locals escape the city for rivers, fresh fruit, lush green trees, and incredible food. Sitting riverside at Hamesha Bahar, we finish with rosh — fall-apart lamb stew cooked with potatoes and onions — for the ultimate Afghan countryside feast!

  1. I think Countries like USA and it's close Ally don't want peace in the world there's no profit in that but every time I see those same countries I see humility brotherhood and joy I wish America had that instead were all divided & hateful.

  2. Thank you for visiting. I have been following since two years and big fan of you. The way you define a country just by their culture of food is amazing. I was a little busy and I would definitely have met you. Big fan of you

  3. Ever since I found your account maybe 6-10 years ago, you have been a inspiration to me. I live with diseases called Pulmonary Hypertension, Hydradanitis Suppurativa, and now for the past 4 years I've been living with a chronic wound that just will not heal no matter how hard we try. However with every video of you I watch I watch I feel like I can get through all of this and its just a matter of time. Also because you, you've made want to become a chef when I'm done dealing with all of this. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all.

  4. My goodness, Pahgman Valley looks like a paradise, that running water is so fresh and clean.

  5. This man taste buds is like on whole another level. He never feel a dish tasteless or boring. Everything he eats thats good for him 😂

  6. 13:25 – no twisted child protection laws !
    No gentle parenting !
They grow from children into responsible men through hard work !!!
    Bravo Afghanistan 👍🏻

  7. love you Mark and all your content, food looked great but i'm not convinced. for all the feminist's out there where are the women in this video???

  8. I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the actual show, but I was wondering if you can get me in touch with somebody in Vietnam that can be an interpreter for my husband‘s family that live over there cause he is Vietnamese. He was born there he came to the United States at four years old lost the language so he can no longer speak it and has lost touch with his family since his mother has got dementia. Anything you can do to help me would be very appreciative. Thank you very much Mark and keep up the good work.

  9. After destroying all the Statues of Buddhas in Afghamistan and forcefully converting the local Afghans ( particulary Asian looking Hazara people) into Islam, now Afghanistan is a peaceful country. Why dont the Afghans people of other faiths to live in coexistence in there ? Why is Afghans running away from the Taliban ? Why did Taliban girls ban from attending schools ? By the way, do u have to dress like a local muslim man ( as u do always) to dine in the Muslim dominated countries

  10. I think Mark blocked me. I’m huge fan but for some reason I NEVER EVER EVER get a like from him when many many people do specially right after his videos i comment but my Like always get skipped. I tend to wonder if I ever said anything wrong back then but nothing I can think of. The most I said is he probably takes the biggest craps

  14. Mark, really I am not impressed with this Video. You say and show a side of Afghanistan that looks beautiful and tastes good. But what about the girls and women?
Under Taliban rule, women and girls in Afghanistan are systematically banned from public life and stripped of their fundamental human rights. Girls are prohibited from attending school past the sixth grade, and women are entirely barred from higher education and almost all forms of employment. In public spaces, women must be completely veiled, are not allowed to visit parks or gyms, and cannot travel without being accompanied by a close male relative. Furthermore, extreme restrictions prevent women from making their voices heard outside the home or accessing healthcare and justice independently. According to reports by UN Women and Human Rights Watch, these institutionalized restrictions effectively place half of the country's population under complete gender-based exclusion.
