This gorgeous Italian breakfast strata is one of the best breakfast casseroles ever! It features layers of bread, Italian sausage, plenty of spinach, melty fontina cheese, and is held together with the perfect amount of egg custard. This rustic casserole has a beautifully light texture, yet it’s rich and satisfying, without being heavy. Enjoy!

  1. Looks great, but two days to prepare, and an hour and a quarter to cook (plus cooling time) it's not going to be a breakfast here any time soon!

  2. Until now, I never heard of this before or after I saw it in 'The Family Stone'. Meredith tried to make this for the family for Christmas morning, but it didn't go to plan and hilarity ensued. 🤣 Looks wonderful when actually cooked!

  3. Looks like another winner John, definitely will give it a try! Thank you for the recipe and I hope you have a lovely weekend.

  4. This is making me nostalgic for my childhood. My late mother (who, like you, was also a chef) often made strata for breakfast. YUM!!!

  5. This seems like a lot of work for breakfast. Do I really want to start cooking when I'm groggy and waiting for my coffee to drip? I don't think so.
